The vehicles will kick your pawns if their needs are too low, I would suggest looking at the pawn's needs bar and making to sure to satisfy their major needs (Rest, Food, Joy). Once the bar is back above a certain percent (dunno what Mason set it to) your colonist should be allowed back in the vehicle.

The reason for the kicking is to prevent pawns from dying of exhaustion or hunger while in the vehicle as their needs will continue to drop while in the vehicle and there's no warning system set up yet that handles pawns in vehicles.
