too modern? dude...it uses a Maxim 37 mm cannon at lvl 1; lewis guns at lvl 2 and 3...
Those are used in 1914-1918 and the TF2 timeline is the 70's...which is way later

But what about the rest of it, just because the guns look to date doesn't mean the rest of it does

Actually, I think it looks fine. The only things that don't look that Frontline-esque to me are the vibrancy of the colors and the roundness of it.

I agree, I think if it was more square it would look less modern.
