Reactors and Dangers
I got a Raid incoming from glitterworld commandos.

When they arrived with drop pods at the same time a solar flare set in and a zzzttt did knock off my solar flare shield.

So in short: Power gone, pawns busy.

The fully loaded V reactor was at 1700 degree after scram and started taking damage.

i fended off the commandos, but in the end they kept me away from the reactor and it exploded.

It does not quite feel realistic that there is no way to emergency cool a reactor during a power loss, or is there? How do your V reactors deal with solar flares?

I think there should be some emergency tools, or if that is not possible some emergency cooling from the radiator even during power loss.

Also i feel that usually there are few things that endanger reactors otherwise.

I would like in turn to see some thready that make sure those emergency measures are used from time to time.

in the event of a solar flare the reactor controller turns the reactor off, since you were using some mod to avoid dealing with solar flares i assume you turned that feature off, so your reactor didn't start a shut down, it just sat there while your cooling probably powered off first, also the big core is sensitive, just use smaller ones if you want better safety

I just tested it out: The reactors shut down on overheating and strangely enough even if i cut the cooling to the turbine and switch of the turbines and cut the control panel loom the V shuts down on overheat and quickly gets cold.
The A stays just online with a temperature of 444degree, 0,00% cooling and 3400 turbine. Until i cut the cold water pipe that is, then it overheats and shuts down.

Its a bit strange behaviour.

Well anyways, if emergency tools are not wished how about have the radiator running on 20% when it has no power?

the cooling tower has an unpowered cooling capacity, but not the rad or water cooler

I have 6 cooling towers strange that they did not cool it down during the solar flare then, i have no idea how it works i guess.

oh wait no i got that wrong, i was looking at the roofed and water level code, its 0 on all of them with no power, limited when roofed on towers, or when water levels low

I thought about it, maybe the way its now might even be more realistic, i did read that one thing that did lead to catastrophic failures was that the emergency pumps could not be used, so if there would be a real intense solar flare knocking out the pumps perhaps it would lead to a range of meltdowns in real life too. Only that the reactors too would loose power and just shut down - if build correctly.

There is one more behavior of the Reactors i dont understand:
When a scram is activated but the reactor has critical heat levels it seems that it does not shut down the way it would normally the control rods dont go fully down.

thats the control rod seizing, it slows down when it gets hotter so if the heat rises faster than you can insert the control rods then they fully seize and you're ♥♥♥♥♥♥

have a pawn with high construction skill do panic repair, buys you time to fidn a solution

what whould be the best way to get rid of the cracked rods and are there plans to add a machine that repairs or dissasebles it ?
