Editing the backstories will sometimes causes <br><br> to appear in the text. Please report all instances of this to me so I can clean up the offending paragraph script.
Searched the .int using Notepad++, also these:
Engineer #17, #19, #20
Scientist #17
Soldier #10, #11, #20, #21, #23, #24, #29, #35, #36, #43, #44, #48, #49
Then I stopped.
Maybe that's worth doing? Just search for the "<br><br>" string
"hiding in the ruins of his Father's old church"
I don't believe Father should be capitalised here. I think it's biological father (not capitalised elsewhere).
"and took him to refine his psionic abilities"
should that be "took him in to refine"?
"He keeps his father's old bible as a keepsake as well as morale."
change to "as well as for morale."?
Also why not have the female one be Christian and the male one be Islamic (mosque for church, Koran for Bible)?
Hrm, is Bible a proper noun? Should it be capitalised?
I agree with your judgement on Templar #21, now revised accordingly.
Edit: Btw, I am revising the content layout to make it easier to look through in the next big update, bringing back story names etc. This will also add Birthday compatibility.
Um.
Looking at my original #103, there's a couple of instances of a single <br> in the background's text. In transposing to this .int it's now a double <br><br> for both instances in that background. Whether that means anything I don't know though.
Just eyeball checked the WoTC XComGame.int and can't see any linebreaks. There's this one which seems to indicate \ as an escape character:
strCharacterBackgroundFemale[1]="<XGParam:StrValue1/!FirstName/> is said to be something of a master among the Reapers when it comes to the preparation of exotic meats, namely those butchered from among the alien armies. \"Bash 'em, drain 'em, stick 'em on a spit.\""
Uh. Confused.
As for double <br><br> that was me. A single use of <br> only gave a single line drop in WOTC, not the double...
Literally as I'm writing this, I'm wondering whether the use <br> <br> with a space would resolve this?
Overwrite the vanilla game indexes with various test cases. Use character pool and Random Nickname Button mod.
I'd like to get one mission in this evening. When I've done that I'll see if I can test this a bit more rigorously. Assuming it's not a nightmare mission.
Lord of War - it says 'at least is was until we came along' - is should be it.
