Grammar & Spelling Mistakes
If you spot an error in one of the backstories then please let me know here.

I would love a screenshot to help me quickly identify the story in question, failing that please provide me with a line or two from the story.

E.g. You have spelled 'explosives' wrong in the Fisherman story where it talks about "He placed homemade explosives around the entrance to the ADVENT dock".

Ax... should be Axe.

Nice catch. Thanks.

<BR><BR> ISSUE

Editing the backstories will sometimes causes <br><br> to appear in the text. Please report all instances of this to me so I can clean up the offending paragraph script.

Got a <br><br> in both male and female #103 (seen in game)

Searched the .int using Notepad++, also these:
Engineer #17, #19, #20
Scientist #17
Soldier #10, #11, #20, #21, #23, #24, #29, #35, #36, #43, #44, #48, #49

Then I stopped.

Maybe that's worth doing? Just search for the "<br><br>" string

Templar #21 -
"hiding in the ruins of his Father's old church"
I don't believe Father should be capitalised here. I think it's biological father (not capitalised elsewhere).

"and took him to refine his psionic abilities"
should that be "took him in to refine"?

"He keeps his father's old bible as a keepsake as well as morale."
change to "as well as for morale."?

Also why not have the female one be Christian and the male one be Islamic (mosque for church, Koran for Bible)?

Hrm, is Bible a proper noun? Should it be capitalised?

Hmm. My first pass at the <br><br> issue removed spacing on all forms at an attempt to resolve. OK my next pass will be to increase spacing. If that fails I will just severely limit the use of line breaks and shorten some stories.

I agree with your judgement on Templar #21, now revised accordingly.

Edit: Btw, I am revising the content layout to make it easier to look through in the next big update, bringing back story names etc. This will also add Birthday compatibility.

Maybe just do a search and replace for "<br><br>" with "</br></br>"?
Cato  [developer] 25 Sep, 2017 @ 9:54am
Do we know that </br> command works? I have not seen any examples of that in use anywhere.

Crap. Now I'm confused. Just looked through my old .int and I was using <br> merrily for line breaks. I'm sure that worked before. Not sure where I got the </br> thing from.

Um.

Looking at my original #103, there's a couple of instances of a single <br> in the background's text. In transposing to this .int it's now a double <br><br> for both instances in that background. Whether that means anything I don't know though.

Just eyeball checked the WoTC XComGame.int and can't see any linebreaks. There's this one which seems to indicate \ as an escape character:

strCharacterBackgroundFemale[1]="<XGParam:StrValue1/!FirstName/> is said to be something of a master among the Reapers when it comes to the preparation of exotic meats, namely those butchered from among the alien armies. \"Bash 'em, drain 'em, stick 'em on a spit.\""

And the original .int for More Random Backgrounds uses <br> quite merrily. And <br><br> too.

Uh. Confused.

Yeah, I saw that vanilla Reaper quote as well and it confused me. I need to see it in game to understand if it is a paragraph break or not. It has quotation marks in strange places which normally would indicate the end of the string.

As for double <br><br> that was me. A single use of <br> only gave a single line drop in WOTC, not the double...

Literally as I'm writing this, I'm wondering whether the use <br> <br> with a space would resolve this?

Maybe a test version of the .int

Overwrite the vanilla game indexes with various test cases. Use character pool and Random Nickname Button mod.

I'd like to get one mission in this evening. When I've done that I'll see if I can test this a bit more rigorously. Assuming it's not a nightmare mission.

Skirmisher 'Age and Wisdom' (entry 49) - obedient is misspelled 'obediant'.
Cato  [developer] 29 Sep, 2017 @ 8:57am
Good catch. Corrected for the next update.

XCOM 'Missing Sibling' - devastated is spelled incorrectly.

Lord of War - it says 'at least is was until we came along' - is should be it.
