I get where you are comming from but if you use sprites from another effect, it wont penalize you in any way. As long is its not from anying except tf2 or completely made up. "The mystery to everyone effect" was made by a community contributor that used the cloud sprites and skull sprite from misty skull and stormy storm. If a new effect is accepted into the game and has any new sprites, those are all now in-game content and are usable to everyone who goes in the particle editor.
That's a neat insight.
I was more concerned with the symbols themselves and what they might be read as.
It would be a pretty nifty way to sneak something crude into the game.
Lol Naw, the symbols are completely made up. Would be cool to have meanings to them, but I was just wanting to add something original into the effects. They are suppose to signify magic symbols you may find in shows or anime when casting a spell.
Ice didn't make it in because valve generally accepts effects in groups of three if they can.
Ice was either the least popular or valve just didn't like it for whatever reason.
