BlackICE Historical Immersion Mod

BICE is the best military mod for HOI4, but...
I can only play HOI4 with BICE. I've tried nearly every other major mod out there, but only BICE gives me the tools to create and fight the war machine I want to have, with the details and options I want, in every country I've played. I love the granularity of the new production system and tech trees.

My one issue with BICE, though, is that it tries so hard to recreate WWII as it happened that it starts feeling like it's tying me down and forcing it down my throat. In BICE even if you use cheats or console commands to edit the game, you're stuck with history. Change the Soviet Union or Germany into a liberal democracy? You're stuck with communist or fascist advisors. Or events like the Great Purge that happen regardless of your government type. There are generic focus trees, which are a nice band-aid, but woefully inadequate.

My suggestion, as a confirmed die-hard BICE player, is to please, please, please, stop cutting out things that allow alternate history. Someone went in there and deleted all the democratic ministers from Germany and USSR. Someone redid the Soviet purges to make them happen regardless of government type. It's like at one point someone went in the mod and said "♥♥♥♥ you, you have to fight as a Nazi or communist."

Where BICE is greatest and unmatched - the military system with interesting and realistic battalion and division customization, the tools and graphics to enable realistic organizations and micro and macro management - should be the focus of the mod in the future. I've fought WWII literally hundreds of times in HOI and other games, if I chose instead to try a game as a monarchist German or conservative democratic rump Russia without the Soviet SSRs, just let me do it. Spend less time on the events and foci that force me to either jump through the historic gates down the road that force me to invade Poland or purge my best generals (or cheat) in order to unlock those otherwise common sense decisions and advisors that I'd otherwise have access to with or without roleplaying as Hitler or Stalin.

If BICE doubled down as the best, most realistic military mod of HOI4 and either allowed or ignored alternate history or non-historic decisions, the mod would be much more enjoyable (IMHO). I know BICE exists because it was designed from the start as the most realistic WWII mod for the game, but years later... I think the mod has shown where its greatest strength really is.

OK! This is a historical mod, but please make a blackice-style mod that allows historical variations.

ok, go for it mate. This will be HUNDREDS of hours programming and modding and even more time for balancing. BI is peak perfomance for wwII sim. You simply cannot add just a focus tree and hope it works. BI has endless dependencies for focuses and balancing. it is just not possible without a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of work.

I've done exactly this myself and it amounts to a sub-mod. Can confirm: it's taken hundreds of hours of programming, modding, and balancing to get where I am, and although "Das Letzte Einhorn" is expressly for ahistorical play, it is tailored for Germany only. If I tried to do it for every nation I would be bald from tearing my hair out.

As it is, I've given up trying to fix the localization issues with Brazil, which I never play, but which makes my eyes twitch when a global Brazilian event fires and I have to read the murdered English grammar which apparently was just copy-pasted from badly-translated Wikipedia articles. Don't get me started on the Anglo-Spanish Mediterranean conflict...

Biggest timesink is playtesting; it took a VERY long time for me to figure out how to "fix" various events that my new events "broke".

FWIW, it's easy to set up for a Democratic cabinet, if you're willing to include conservatives who worked with the Nazis but didn't go Fascist. You can set this up as a simple trigger which sets off a series of replacements relating to, for example, the outcome of the Nazi civil war (adding a choice selection wherein Goering's gov't collapses), or even just as its own National Focus event. Remember to mark leaders you don't want reappearing in the cabinet as DEAD!

And no, I haven't published DLE and won't until I finish up a number of expansions to it (such as the Airship Refit). All of which is waiting on BI to catch up with HOI, since every time there's a significant BI update I end up having to rebuild nearly from scratch anyways.

TBH, I liked the older (3-4 years ago) versions that let you have a lot more freedom in terms of Alternate History (Fascist/Axis America or Communist Britain, for instance).

I get why the Devs would lock that out for Historical Immersion....but there should have been an option to be "less historically accurate". After all, this is a game where the Nazis CAN pull off Sea Lion....so there's the potential for alternate outcomes, right out of the gate.

For real, I appreciate their attention to the detail, but in the same time I don't.
I mean it's good historical mod, but I would prefer something less historical.
Devs really can't decide that they want to offer here...
Whenever I say these "realism" mods lose the plot, this is what I mean
