Playing Vampire Counts and loosing
Okay so i need help rn, because i cannot for the life of me get a stable vampire count campaign on Hard and it is bugging me.
Here's how it goes for most:
-I cannot build stable economy
-the growth is slow as hell
-can't fill out good troops
-end up being steam rolled by Order Tide (Empire/bretonia)
So here's a bit more detail, in my last playthrought as the Barrow Legion, i take cities, first thing i do is build growth building in minor settlements and focus on gettign a balefire within my major city, when province is secured, i take the corruption and growth option.
I keep battling off the BRetonian minor factions (Idk their name since they're neither bordeleau, carcassone or Couronne) until extinction, pass onto Bordeleau to Help out Mouissillon and make some agreements with them for hope of confederation.
Turn 35-40, i have all my starting elite units in Kemler's army plus filled in skelletons and skelleton spearmen, but can't build a second army despite all my legendary bloodline lord (farmed bloodkisses on the side with a necro) because technology wise, no skelleton nor zombies for free, i have searched all growth boosting techs and have a ballefire level2 and growth level 2 building, added walls to the major city, and the first tier of garnison to the minor settlement.
BUT, the corruption won't go beyond 70%, the public order is straight negative (-7 to 10) in the region if taxed and growth is still a slog so that when i finally reach tier 4 with it:
-i have no money for building any of the good stuff in the city aka Vampire or Necro buildings
-Middenland or Marienburg decide that i'm a weakling and attack me
-throught alliances i am thus attacked by level 1 power empire and either couronne or woodelves join in too.
-at this point, Kemler is strong cuz i know how to battle some field battle, but the lack of characters to weight in on a character based rooster (according to the change pdf anyway) means that one army having starting grail knights curbstomp my garnisons and force me into a loop between fighting and taking it, loosing all progress back to Tier 1, except now all enemies are at my door, rince and repeat till i loose the campaign.

So here's what i know:
-Venris said growth hard no, need buildings, i build them and do both growth research, still get outclassed by AI
- no enough economy boosting, no free skellies, need second army to secure conquered provinces
-corruption and public order keeps being tuned down despite baellfires everywhere, why.
I am at a complete loss for what i'm doing wrong, and wether i do it as Vlad, Manfred or Krell's Best friend I keep dying to this, yet Reddit keeps telling me it's easy win and easy to snowball as a race (even found a post by vernis to answer the critic lol). So pleae tell me what the hell am i doing that's ruining my chances because it's my ONE race i can't beat rn. Thanks

I think in SFO the vampires have a really bad economy in the early game, so you need to raid a sack a lot. Also don't take any settlements that you can't keep (or even raze because the AI will try to colonize it later anyways). Usually I let the corruption grow for a while before I try to expand. You can spread corruption using your army and your heroes(I think vampires in particular? although others should work too). Getting steam rolled by order tide that early in the game kind of give me the impression that you're expanding a bit too fast. Build tall not wide with vampire counts.

VC, at least from my personal experience, are one of those few factions that benefit a lot from the 'build tall' start. Take over the first two or three provinces, then sit and develop your settlements while using armies to raid and sack around you for income while simultaneously spreading corruption. I almost always try and buddy up with the dwarves for trade income, and making sure you don't kick off the Order Tide too early can be tricky as you're trying to build yourself up as well as not waiting too long to start invading as the Empire inevitably grows in power.

Make friends, if you can - VC are more or less surrounded by Order, so having any factions willing to lend a hand is helpful when things really get heated.

A few more tricks and tips for the Barrow Legion... Abuse your necros. You can recruit 2 on turn one, and if you get raise dead thats quite a few throwaway units to lock down annoying units early game while you focus on removing real threats. As growth and a terrible economy are crippling for them early game, I focus on building defense in settlements and no real military infrastructure early, BUT keep a very close eye on the regions you're operating in. You can easily raise an advanced army if 2 other factions have a major battle by slipping in and using raise dead to grab some high tier units, those 20 stack tier 1 bretonian yeoman cavalry armies tend to leave behind some real high casualty battle markers.

Early game focus more on raiding and skirmish fighting as opposed to expanding as you're most likely not going to have the money to constantly upgrade or repair towns and manage army expenses. Plus the fact that corruption is going to be so damn low that you'll have to constantly babysit settlements to avoid endless rebellions. I usually refuse any diplomacy offers other than trade agreements early as they tend to drag you into wars you simply can't handle, and the Red Duke is pretty much the most useless ally imaginable.

Once you feel like you have a decent foothold the first major building I'd go for is vampire recruitment. Then start getting those blood kisses. Agent actions are pretty damn powerful for the VC. being able to spam block movement can save your campaign if a much stronger faction starts causing trouble for you, or even some AI near you. Keeping a second target buffer alive between you and an enemy can work wonders (or at least by you a turn or two to get your armies in position.
