I definitely promote the base lord, he is 'very' strong, but yeah, you need to be productive early on, I usually rush the north mountain to cover that side, as the biggest issue is being attacked from multiple flanks. If you can cover the north with the other dwarves and remove the orcs on that flank, then you can build up and push south.
Also use the dawi strengths, tank with the shields and hit them with combined arms (artillary / archers) for the damage.

TY very much, I just started one as the base Lord and it goes better so far. Still im getting my ass whipped but i left some armies in provinces and as long as i fight them manually i won the most and can properly defend. Also i went lucky since Klan Angrund also somehow conquered some of the orc provinces too.

Aye, Orcs are nasty early, but Dwarves overtake later on. Your tanky as heck to begin with, but just lack damage dealers. your biggest worry is your squads getting flanked. Try to keep a solid line where possible in battle.

Cheers mate, I usually just corner far back in the map just to prevent that from happenining and that works just fine. Longbears tanking the front, Everguard units as reserver, a lot of archers and my lord tanking the most of the waves and getting my catapults and archers to work.
