Question about pace of AI
hi,

i recently found this MOD and tried some games with it.
first with Beastmen went pretty well.

i then tried Clan Pestilence, Blessed Dread and The Golden order (each several tries).
in each game i met the same 3 problems.
1. slow growth of own settlements
2. income problems
3. AI armies very early fielded mid or high end units

this 3 problems all led my game the same way each time. i had problems developing my own settlements, so had even more problems generating income, so not enogh money to field much troops. like i had after 5-10 turns sometimes enough money to field my main general with a 19 units (so full 20 army) but AI neighbours had 2-3 armies running around in the same time.

even when a game realy went well (with golden order i had some takes against border princes)
i had problems in first major battles against vampires as they fielded mid-tier or high-end units and i (as settlements didn't build up fast enough) could only fild basic units, not even artillery.

so, am i realy that bad or do i miss something basic here?

i played all games on normal difficulty and only used SFO: Grimhammer II and the banner mod (the one recomended by SFO).

thanks for any constructive feedback.

little new example: playing as Blessed Dread having 5 settlements (high elve island + the 3 small settlements to the south).
Itza has only 1 settlement and is attacking me with 3 armies, one army only consisting of Monsters (the heavy dinosaurs, can't remember the name).
with 1 settlement he can't support that, but the armies don't have attrition from bancruptacy or so.

next problem is constant rebellion from public unrest wich mainly comes from corruption wich i can't realy fight.

don't get it how The Blessed Dread shall be played there.

Ai cheat armies since Rome 1. Nothing can be done with it.

I suggest you using Easy Submod. You will get better experience

I use the easy sub-mod on hard campaign with normal battles. I have a vampire campaign and Dwarves campaign going very well. Yes especially with the Dwarves growth is painfully slow. I am almost at Tier 4 but AI has had Tier 4 for quite some time. With vampires not as bad. Main settlement is already at Tier 5 before same turn that Dwarves got Tier 4, lol. Anyways. With vamps, you can "cheat" better armies with the raise dead over sites where big battles took place. With the money mod if you play skaven you should be able to have 2 stacks (perhaps one with lots of crap units to overwhelm the enemy) and then your main army with arty , weapons teams and a few other units you are interested in.

I would say yea use the easy sub-mod and enjoy the game more :). I look at as the AI cheats armies so I might as well get more money and try to beat them with lower tier but higher numbers.

ok, i tried it....campaign on easy, battle on normal, with the easy-sub-mod.
playing as skaven clan pestilenz (lord skrolk).
worked good at start, could beat the blessed dread, now at war with itza.

it's round 29 and i have a lizardman army of 1 razordon hunting pack, 2 salamander hunting pack, 4 feral cold ones, 3 feral carnosaur, 2 feral stegadon, 1 ancient salamander + level 7 lord incoming.

max tier building i have is level 3 in oxyl wich allows me to recruit plague monks.
so how shall i fight that army with starting skaven units or with plague monks.
it's just cannon fodder for that armie.

it's not a problem of money, there just isn't enough growth to build high tier buildings.
i realy start to think that the patches and the last DLC from CA did break the balance by changing growth.

ok, now i know.....2 armies full of plague monks and shielded spear clanrats can stop that army....with heavy losses, but they won.

still, there is something totaly unbalanced in the game i think :WHII_Death:

Your army is very low tier in compare to enemy. Like lowest possible.
GermanDad 4 Feb, 2021 @ 3:04pm
yeah i know, problem is the slow growth doesn't make anything more possible.
Iolaus 5 Feb, 2021 @ 10:55am
Skaven have really high growth, even higher than vanilla I think. Commandment, high food, growth buildings and high public order will get your growth to the moon.

Melee infantry only armies will do poorly everywhere without support, even the highest tier melee units. Get catapults, plague spells and arcane conduit with your casters ASAP playing as Skrolk.

Also, plagues.

I play on Very hard/Very hard, but have over 2k hours in the game. I guess im just good lol. Little tip: dont be afraid to turn taxes off to bump growth so you can upgrade faster.
Foe-Hammer 13 Feb, 2021 @ 7:02pm
why cant Dark elves turn taxes offf? it makes growth impossible, even when you leave Lords to deal with rebellions. your provinces take forever to grow where you can get public order buildings
