Rhino Blade of the Lotus - Skin & Alt Helm

The changes...
I'm not sure exactly what all changed, but it just looks... off.

Main thing i noticed, though, is some parts are more round now, which doesn't really look right with the artstyle choice of this skin: The flat spots and edges made it look more intimidating, rugged, and protective.

TLDR: "Rhino knight doesn't need curves... It just ain't right!"

I can honestly say I'm not really sure what you are referring to. Except for a few weak areas that got redesigned (some for technical reasons, some because I didn't like them), the lines and edges from the previous design were kept untouched. In fact, they were just given more emphasis and detail.

If I compare them side by side, the previous design actually felt like it emphasizes the curves a little bit more due to the style of the stripes. I am sorry you don't like the changes, unfortunately there will always be people who like the previous iteration better.

I'm mainly talking about the helmet. It might just be perspective or somthing though, but it really just looks a lot curvier, and longer.

Though, ofcourse, i'm still going to buy it if/when it gets put in. Even if it doesn't look quite how i'm remembering it, it's still an amazing piece of work, and deserves all of the positive attention that it gets.

Haha I swear I didn't change the shape of the helmet! I really didn't want to make a new low poly. Though without the holes in the front of the helmet, it could be making the face appear longer.

Anyways I appreciate your candid thoughts and I'm happy you still enjoy it. It's a bit nerve-racking working on something that has a lot of support and knowing you have to make some changes to it.

I know what you mean, but of a different category. I'm a lorewriter, and being as it's publicly available material, i have to keep in mind i'm not the only one reading and enjoying it, can't just think as one person, have to worry about how other people will percieve it.

Just went back and looked at rhe screenshot in the sword's page, and yeah, it must be the removal of the holes that's throwing me off. Is that one of the changed DE forced you into, or was that from feedback or something?

That's so cool that you are a lorewriter! Have you worked on anything I might be aware of?

I was not told to remove them specifically, but, based on what DE said, I inferred that they needed to go or at the very least change in shape. The helmet was a bit too literal. I'm pretty happy overall with the changes, but I will always miss the old face haha.

Nothing really too well known, or very complete. An in-the-works, but able to be viewed wiki. Oracle Legacy. (Search "Oracle Legacy Expanded Universe Lore Wikia" i think...) At the moment, it's pretty much a one man show, but i do have some basic support staff, dev team groups, people in the lineup that might merge their projects with mine, and i do plan to bring attention to the staff applications and such, so i can go more in depth with story, and let other people help expand outward.

Comments on a discussion might not be the best place to talk about this, if you want to discuss it further, we can be steam friends and chat about it or something. Don't want this thread to go on endlessly about something unrelated to the item, right?

Ah yes the changes! I can see that the feet definitely improved from the last version. I do agree though how the helmet is quite different without the visor like holes. Can't wait to see what you'll do with the Oberon skin.

I don't know about the rest of you but after seeing the modifications to the helmet it still looks sick but.......... The helmet looks like ED 209 from Robocop LOL

It still kinda has holes and it does look more futuristic with curves and smooth edges. I will still buy it!

I admit i miss the rugged feel the original gave me with the holes in the lower helmet. It looks too "smooth" now. It needs to be roughed up a bit, to show its been in a few battles since your missing out on the dark contrast that the holes gave the lower portion of the helmet. Otherwise it looks great. Cant wait to see it in game... hopefully.

^I'm afraid I don't think there is much I can do about that. I was specifically told to clean him up quite a bit. He's probably still pushing what they'll allow me to get away with in terms of grunge for the Tenno aesthetic. Though, he is still probably comparitively dirtier and more worn than most things except the Graxx stuff.

There's also literally just normal frame skins but covered in battle damage, even to the point of having massive scorch marks and gouges, with inner-glow exposed... DE's just wants more control over it to be how -they- want it to look, instead of who will actually be, you know, -using- the skins. The devs just use deluxe skins or the absolute default with a cheap'o syandana for whatever reason anyways, not like they'd be looking at the skins much themselves... If it's the playerbase that actually sees and uses the skins, i'd think they should be the ones influincing design changes.

I think we can all agree that DE is just a confusing mess of inconsistancy.

Well I think the Vojnik skins are far more beaten up than this was previously and they got it, so I'm really not sure where the problem is, but nonethless I love the skin!
