Well from my source,the melody was recycled from an old World War 2 secret weapon test by the Japanese, it was sort of something to the effect of brainwashing I don't really believe it but its fun to think about

lol just kidding ;D. The truth about the real version of the song... It never lead children to commit suicide. If so, then it would be a much bigger deal than Electric Soldier Porygon, which gave many children seizures and was on the news. The lavender town origional song was creepy, and the atmosphere of the town gave it that feeling. The only reason people think the song gave children suicidal thoughts was the creepypastas on the town. But it is fun to imagine how dangerous the song must have been.
