Did you try to choose an image and re-visit the wallpaper?

Can you please try to choose image, restart the wallpaper and then paste here the last error that is found in C:\Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/wallpaper_engine/bin/debug.log?

Hey, I have the same problem, only way I have to use a custom background is to "publish preset", then subscribe to it (even changing a downloaded preset's background image doesn't work)
Trying to change the background image then restarting the wallpaper just makes the background white
Also I don't know if it's the right one but the last error in debug.log is [0616/150802.761:WARNING:value_store_frontend.cc(42)] Reading mhjfbmdgcfjbbpaeojofohoefgiehjai.alarms from failed: IO error: .../LOCK: No further details. (ChromeMethodBFE: 15::LockFile::1)
