Urban Flight crashes game
Hello I have problem with Urban Flight . When I start game install couple of other add-ons and I want to install Urban Flight it crashes the game . Doesn't matter if i have five other add-ons or only this one ( checked it twice ) it happens all the time . I wanted to start this discussion so people will know that there is problem and maybe fix to this .

I realize this is a problem for you and others. Unfortunately, I have not been able to figure out either the cause or solution. Part of the problem is that, while it always happens for some, it happens inconsistently for others (including myself). Sometimes it crashes, other times it doesn't. It makes it a little tricky to track down a common element in these cases (Thank you for telling me that it happens regardless of other installed addons, though!).

I promise I will let people know as soon as I believe I have a solution or explanation. In the meantime, I apologize for you not being able to play the campaign.

Would be awesome if I could play anything at all it crashes whole game (and even when i deleted all files and unsuscribed it urban flight still wanted to open itself in game) so I had to re-install it . Not much of problem for me but still ... Good Luck with fixing this problem .

I'm sorry you had to go so far as to reinstall all of L4D2. I would think that unsubscribing and deleting the local files should be enough.

Ye , I thought so but it didn't work .

Rabbit- I was (am?) one of the folks that had 100% crash from this, but think(?) I have it working. It's not a great workaround, but, any port in a storm...

First, unsub in the Workshop (start clean). Next, went to l4dmaps.com, downloaded the VPK from there and installed it - note that it goes into addons directory not addons/workshop directory. Now, go back to the Workshop, and subscribe. You'll get a new file in addons/workshop (for me, 121086524.jpg, it may differ though), exit out before it finishes downloading. Move the UrbanFlight.vpk to the addons/workshop directory, and rename it as 121086524.vpk (match the number to the jpg if it differs). Log back in. L4D2 should now see you as subscribed, and have it installed. Presumably, everything tied together nicely so it stays in sync - fingers crossed.

One curious thing to note... UrbanFlight.vpk is 214M. The biggest VPK in the workshop is 199M. Wondering if you've gone over a limit and need to split the distro into 2 pieces (like many other campaigns have). Worth a shot at least...

It's entirely possible that the size is the sole factor. I would be entirely to blame for thinking that exceeding the limit by a few measly megs would be an issue. Unfortunately, there's no real way to just split the campaign into pieces now and turn the Workshop entry into a Collection. I would essentially need to start over from scratch, which I would like to avoid. In attempt to fix the root problem, I am currently optimizing to bring the size back down below 200mb.

maybe disable some of your addon map

I have reduced the overall file size of the campaign to below 200MB. At the very least, the campaign should upload and load faster when starting L4D2. I would love to know if this has any effect on your crashing problem.

For me it didn't help at all. Still crashes.

No crash for me, but haven't played to the finish. Yet.

Still crashes for me too. Any solution?

Have tried re-installing 3 times now, and attempted to remove all sign of Urban Flight from my account/Steam directory (including add-on directory), yet it's still crashing. Interestingly, whenever I start up l4d2 fresh from a new install, it starts up a loading bar down the bottom of the menu for Urban Flight. The game crashes to desktop after completion. There's quite possibly some reference to the add-on SOMEWHERE in my directory, but god knows where.

Any ideas, author???

I've also tried running l4d2 on a newer PC and get the exact same issue. The newer PC has generally high-end 2013 specs and Win7, whereas the older PC has XP and ~2007 specs. The way I installed l4d2 on the new PC was by copying my Steam folder (incl all my games) to it from the older PC AFTER I thought I had removed all signs of l4d2, then attempted to do a "fresh" install of l4d2 on it.
This is quite obviously an account/directory issue, and not the map.
Hope my long spiel gives some clues/insight.
I miss l4d2 :'(

Maddeningly, I still have no idea why this campaign crashes L4D2 for some people.

For _solarburn_,

These steps, combined with unsubscribing from the campaign in the workshop, should eliminate any trace of the campaign and L4D2's need to download it. This obviously stops you from playing the campaign, but I'd rather you be able to play L4D2 at all...

The only references on your computer to this campaign could be:

-- A VPK in the left4dead2/addons folder
It's possible (though unlikely) that you may have a package for urban flight in this directory. Delete it.

-- The workshop vpk and image in the left4dead2/addons/workshop directory
This would be two files: the vpk itself and a thumbnail jpeg. For me, the names are 121086524.jpg and 121086524.vpk. That might be the same for everyone. Delete them!

-- An entry in left4dead2/addonlist.txt
This is a list workshop items you have either subscribed to or downloaded (not sure which), and whether they are enabled in L4D2. Thus, there should be an entry with this campaign's corresponding number. It would look something like: "workshop\121086524.vpk" "1". Open this file in a text editor, and delete that line.

I sincerely hope this helps you.

Finally got onto l4d2 yesterday on my own (older) PC and played for a solid hour. The only thing that I hadn't done before that point was unsubscribe to the campaign here in the workshop. I swear I'd done that, but obviously not. Thanks Rabbit :3

Hey, I noticed that AFTER the STEAM update in early July, nearly ALL my campaigns were crashing. Now, after re-loading SOME of them, including this one, it crashes the whole game, and sometimes, I have to wait a while before it disappears (sp) after I re-boot. One campaign, I had to wait until the holiday weekend was over, THEN that campaign I deleted was gone. Nevertheless, I have been having the same issue (AFTER THE STEAM UPDATE). Is there a way to rectify this? I was fine BEFORE the update!
