Q&A Immersive Taming
To Burgessss:
I hope you don't mind if I place this Q&A in this thread, if you please, copy and paste this one and make a new thread, and i will delete this one, otherwise i will continue to update this thread as necesary, if there are any mistakes, please let me know.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: I spend a lot of bait ammo on one dino, yet it is still not tamed, predators still target me?
A: It's not an instant tame item, but allows for interactive taming through in game activities. More activities are unlocked as taming increases/ the bond grows (:

Q: I couldn't quite get the wolves to be tamed, even at 48% tamed (gained only through feeding) they would still attack on sight.
A: Nearby species targetting prevention unlocks at 70%.

Q: Is there some sort of timer on the buff from the taming process? For example whenever you reach the point where all species of that dino ignore you unless attacked, is there a timer on that or will players be able to exploit that by stopping the taming process there and still keep the buff?
A: It's only dinos of the same species in the nearby area that won't target you and taming starts to decrease after 15 mins of no gains. Plus if you, your dino, or your tribe attack the Dino or one of it's allies, taming ends

Q: I am unable to tame Rex/Bronto/Giga/Wyverns etc.
A: Not working on the #### is intentional. The functionality is there, but I just don't have the meshes or icons ready yet.
Golem; Rock bait.
Rex, Wyvern and any other such large predator; prime meat bait.
Bronto and such large herbivors; Vegetables
Titano; Unknown for now.

Q: What about the Karkinos?
A: The Karkinos can be tamed even though you normally would knock it out with siege weapons. The idea is that it would eventually require Prime meat Bait to be tamed.

Q: Does this disable the original taming methods, or simply adds and alternative method?
A: It should be adding an alternative method to vanilla taming, however there is little knowledge on how it works together with other mods which overhaul the core mechanics, for example; the Primitive Plus mod will disable this mod.

Q: What about the mod compatibility?
A: It works with my own modded Confu bird, so it should work with other modded Dinos, unless they've incorporated a super in depth custom taming mechanic that isn't exposed in the Dev Kit.

Q: Is there (or can you add) a method to increase/decrease the taming % per feeding? based on your vid, it takes a bit of time. How much time does it take to tame a creature?
A: It's scaling with your game's TamingSpeedMultiplier, it should somewhat mirror the mod to vanilla taming in terms bites required.

Q: Does it give your character xp?
A: Yes, when you finished the tame it should give the same amount of XP as when one would kill the creature.

Q: In the video meat is being shot near the dilo via an arrow. If that arrow hits the dilo will it agro?
A: The bait arrows don't do any damage, they bounce off anything they hit kinda like grenades do.

Q: How should one tame through bait arrows in the water?
A: I think using a crossbow should remedy such issues.

Q: Can you make mushroom bait and mushroom bait arrows?
A: I'm assuming you mean for Aberration? Will need the DevKit to get updated first.

Q: Whats the proper mod load order?
A: I don't think it requires any particular priority in the load order, as doesn't modify any existing content. Everything is handled via the new craft able items once consumed, and then the buffs are applied.

Q: What about the mod compatibility?
A: It works with my own modded Confu bird, so it should work with other modded Dinos, unless they've incorporated a super in depth custom taming mechanic that isn't exposed in the Dev Kit.

Q: The bait falls through the floor.
A: This should have been fixed with the latest itteration, however it is still recommended to use arrowed bait. Similar issues occur with vanilla items, such as dropping smaller eggs.

Q: What about the skittish creatures?
A: I think it should work for skittish creatures too as long as you can attract them from a distance and get the taming high enough that they don't target you, and then move in for petting and such. It's the targeting behaviour that determines should they flee, so it they don't actually target you, it should be grand!

New Q&A 4/1/2018

Q: Does this mod replace dinos in your server with new versions
A: No

Q:Does this mod work with other mods
A: As the mod does not change anything that has to do with the core mechanics, instead only adds a new mechanic on top of the core mechanics, it should work with any mod that does not drastically change the core mechanics.

New Q&A 6/1/2018

Q: Why does it say "Go your separate ways..." while taming?
A: This event happens after you have interacted with either "Take care for" or "Pet" options. Give the animal some time to grow its desire towards such interaction.

Q: Does the progress of tame persist when the server is restarted, on character death or if your tame goes into stasis?
A: This mod will negate stasis on any creatures in the process of being tamed, the buff should persist through server restart and death of character. Please ensure, with a server restart, your character is out of agro range of tamed creature, you have a bait available for the hostile creature and let it consume this bait before the process of taming can be re-initiated from its pre-server restart progress.

What if you knock out an animal, quickly build around it so it can't escape, and then leave it alone for a long time and take your time making a larger enclosure so you can later use immersive taming? It would be realistic. Like when someone catches and then trains a wild animal into a pet or utility animal. Falconry is a cool example, since I imagine this would be difficult with something that is always flying like Ichthyornis or rushing around and hard to keep track of.

I see no issue, be my guest and let us know how it went :)

Knock out the animal, build an enclosure around it, and when it wakes up give it bait until it is tame. Good luck.

I finally got the mod up and running. This discussion helped that. I just needed to uninstall the expansions and suddenly it's working. Now I can experiment.

I tried with oviraptor for the heck of it. They're flighty so I thought that it might be a good test. I stopped it with a bolo then triked it with a bow. While it was down I kept it under with narcotics as I built a little 4 wall thatch structure around it. One wall windowed for throwing/shooting in food and one with a door. Took what was left of the narcotics out of its inventory and walked off to let it wake up and give it some time. When I came back it wouldn't eat and it would only panic if I got too close. It spend over an hour just frantically trying to escape and ignoring bait. I opened the door to see if the enclosure was making things worse. It remained in panic mode and around my house I sometimes hear the footsteps before it screams and bolts. Maybe more experimenting is needed to confirm it, but it looks like if you have already knocked it out then it won't forget. At least for Oviraptor.

4:30 am, please forgive any grammer woopsies.

Lol I enjoyed the little story. Skittish creatures technically still target you, they just flee instead of attack. Dino's require no target in order to be attracted to the bait. For skittish creatures, I'd suggest luring with the bait arrows until taming's high enough for them to not target you. Then you can walk right up to it and drop the baits or pet it. Hope this helps.

I was testing if knocking it out would leave a "lasting impression" that would prevent any future attempts at taming with the mod. So fliers that we can loose track of could possibly be knocked out and caged like I tried with the Oviraptor. This Oviraptor became hyper aware of my proximity after waking, like I was still attacking it. It only comes close to my house because I have a flock of dodos inside for eggs. I sware, 6 girls mate bonded produce enough eggs to live off of. I have them tamed and facing the wall so I can just walk up and gather the eggs when I see them.

My first time taming a pterodon and I lost track of it thanks to a bird attack distracting me and my second time he flew way high after the first feeding and I looked away for just a moment to gather some wood and it disappeared. The third try I managed to get one in a nice big space and he cooperated, sticking around for it.

So maybe there could be something that makes animals want to linger roughly where they were first fed?

I have been trying to tame a Karkinos for a while, still cannot figure out which it is supposed to use. Is it supposed to be Meat Bait or Spoiled Meat Bait? Also have only been able to get it up to 22.8% I figured I would ask here as this is the Q and A thread

So far i understand, the creator of this mod is working on including a balista bolt with prime meat which would be used for creatures like karkinos and giga, i myself have not played around with this mod on abberation and its creatures yet. Keep an eye on the mod's updates.
Schmevn 7 Jan, 2018 @ 8:10am
Just going to go play with this, but have a question/suggestion. Would be great to still keep the kibble tree in play. I would think taming something like a rex with prime meat arrow would be crazy hard. Can we shoot bags of kibble near it, like you would berries for other animal types? What about kibble on a stick while flying in front of a Quetz?
Fullmetal_Angyl 7 Jan, 2018 @ 8:55am
This is why I suggested adding in the ability for admins to disable prime baits and now kibble baits, too. I have not yet reached the point of being able to attempt to tame animals on such a level and I don't know if it is easier or harder to tame massive animals with Immersive Taming and if taming the animals that would require prime type foods (includes veggies) with Immersive Taming is easier then it might be considered OP. If it isn't easier then, well, now you know why I was asking to make it so it could be disabled.

@Schmev
So far the information goes, i understand that the moderator, burgessssss, wishes to add an option to use a ballista with prime meat ammo for the "Huge" carnivors (like rex, giga etc).

I presume kibble will be something looked into at a later stage.

@fullmetal
If i understand you correctly my answer is this.
The moderator is working on the numbers and his desires is this; To make the amount of time requires to tame a creature through immersive taming, to be equal to the amount of time that is required of regularly taming a creature (knockout).

Also, knowing that Huge dinos, like rex and giga, will require to be fed with ballista launched bags of prime meat, does make it harder to acquire any such creature then through the knockout way, so far my imagination goes.

Each bait is linked to a category of dinos.

That does help on my end. Thank you for taking the time to explain. 8)

Howdy! Just thought I'd chip in. For now, I've decided not to go with the ballista. It wasn't very practical, as you'd require a dino with a platform saddle, or luck out that the Dino you wanted strolled past your base.
AnimeHuntress181 14 Feb, 2018 @ 10:54pm
do you have to be a certain level to tame raptors? they have a high agro distance and the few times I managed to shoot something in range while out of its range they bolt. I just learned the raptor saddle so i figured id give it a shot.

There's no level requirement. However, non Apex tames such as Raptors need to have no target not be aggro-ed to be attracted to the baits. I'd suggest Ghillie armour and/or switching to the next weapon up (regular bow to crossbow, or crossbow to compound bow), as they shoot bait arrows farther distances.
