Yes it is interchangeable. I just tamed a rex on my server the old fashioned way with tranq arrows and prime meat. And just before that I tamed an argentavis with immersive taming. I did have to maintain a distance and tamed with bait arrows because of current slight issues with aggressive tames. So yes, you can tame either way. I think that answers your question. :)

Aye thanks but I also wanted to know if there was maybe an .INI where i can add acro a bait to tame it immersively

You should be able to do that in the taming journal. There is an option to scan for new dinos and it should find your Acro. You should then be able to assign it baits etc in there. When you do this, it saves this information and should be persistent for the rest of your game. I've even had it remember modded dinos' tame settings across different maps when my server switches. Basically it works like an ini, but you set it in game. Hopefully this works for you.

To add to Iirly's response, you have to be in admin mode to see the options to edit the taming configuration. Just place the taming journal down (pop it in a hotbar slot to do this) and hold E to see the full menu. You can control literally everything from in there.
