Enabling combat taming without trophies

I want combat taming to make the mod a little bit harder. I can enable combat taming on whichever dinos I want, but I seem to be able to initiate it without adding a trophy bait requirement and then throwing that. Is there no way to initiate and use combat taming without necessarily adding a trophy bait?
