LEB's Lategame Enemies
LeaderEnemyBoss  [developer] 23 Feb, 2018 @ 4:44pm
Tactical Information: Riftkeeper
Abilities
  • comes in two versions, a standard version and a "Mk II" version in the super lategame
  • has Consume and AnimaGate (the big laser attack) like the gatekeeper
  • rarely uses damaging abilities and will mostly ignore mimic beacons
  • is resistant (but not immune!) to explosives when closed
  • immune to mind altering effects
  • doesn't take cover and therefore cannot be flanked
  • will usually open a small Rift on reveal (summons a single unit)

New Ability: Rift
The Riftkeeper can open rifts that instantly summon pods of varying sizes. Riftkeeper Mk II can summon more enemies. Use suppression or lockdown (stasis, freeze) to prevent Rift use. Reinforcements will not drop loot or corpses.

New Ability II: Stasis/Sustain
The Riftkeeper has Stasis and Sustain. The Riftkeeper Mk II has AoE Stasis, so avoid cuddling. Mindshields and Solace make your Soldiers immune to stasis.

Tactical Advice
  • Decide if you want to rushdown the Riftkeeper or take down the reinforcements first. Commit to your decision!
  • Lockdown/Suppression can give you some breathing space
  • Shred or AP damage is almost necessary

Rift Beacon
  • This item is expensive and single use. It is intended for your rare very difficulty must-win mission.
  • The spawning location of your reinforced soldier is somewhat random, but centered around the location where the beacon explodes. It can spawn up to a screen away, so be careful where you deploy the beacon.
  • To prioritize soldiers, build the Rift Anchor and give it to the soldier you want to summon (has to be done before the mission starts!)
  • The Dimensional Rift Generator of the Avenger has to recharge after a single use, so dont bother bringing more than one to your missions
  • The Reinforcing soldier acts like a normal member of your squad, that means it can ofcourse die!
  • Only unwounded soldiers can act as reinforcements.
  • If no eligible soldier can be found, a new Rookie gets recruited for free and joins your battle.
  • The reinforcement soldier has a single move the turn he gets teleported in.
  • Since this technology is new and still dangerous, soldiers walking through the Dimensional Rift will suffer a small injury.

The Riftkeeper seems to have an AoE stun as well that it seems to use on reaction. I had my grenadier launch an acid grenade at a Riftkeeper to shred its armor, and all the sudden my grenadier, the technician next to that grenadier, and the enemy chryssalid attacking my technician were all stunned for 4 turns. Just thought I'd mention it here because I haven't seen it be mentioned anywhere else. Great (and rather scary) enemy!
