20K Stress Test
24 Hours into the test, and I'm currently at "Loading Map Graphics" which is where I was 12 hours ago. Currently using 8.2 GB of RAM. Using about 5 cores at 3.8 GHz for the whole process. It does seem to be using all of the cores, so I wonder how multi-threaded the process is.

I wonder: Would too many primitive civilizations also break galaxy generation? Still stuck on the same part at the 34 hour mark.

Alright, things do seem to have actually frozen, possibly due to either A: Too many primitives or B: Not enough names for stars. Going to try to fix both and attempt #2 for 5 days.

And completed! The process took about 56 hours in total, but a 20k galaxy IS possible. Performance really struggles in jumps. Sometimes the game runs smoothly for a few days, and then it struggles for a few seconds before the next day. All and all the galaxy looks beautiful.

Primitives and empires are placed after Voronoi magic has done its thing. Very nice, and congrats!

Yeah, I should have just let it run without messing with the computer and it probably would have completed both my previous two attempts. Everything runs smoothly (even if it takes a while) until it starts loading the map graphics, then Stellaris appears to freeze for a day on just that frame before pushing past it.

The good news is that it takes 5 cores less than 3 days to generate 20k stars, rather than weeks. And it doesn't use an absurd amount of RAM, only 8 GB to start. Performance is hell, but that's to be expected.

Oh, and the logic that primitives might cause issues is that the game doesn't like handling too many empire entities in a single galaxy, and I don't remember if primitives count against that or not.

It has problems generating too many empire spots. It also has problems later on with id limits for leaders/ships/etc. But it isn't a generation issue.

Well, at least now you know it can be generated in 3 days! lol

I'm going to generate a new 20k Galaxy since I tried opening up the old one and it crashed. Any suggestions on how to prepare for this, like namelists?

Any details on things like how pre-FTL empires work will also be appreciated, as I *might* attempt a timelapse of the early game and I want to try to avoid more than 255 species where the UI breaks.
