Cause of Random Companion Death!
I notice that alot of people metioned that they're guards and farmers tend to just die randomly and i think i figured it out:

They die from a cold cause it rains.

Hope this helps!

Edit: It didn't, but we sparked up some convesations though!

...theres a few things going on for sure.

Two of my 8 or so mysterious deaths were inside, and had never left the building. So a cold due to being rained on is pretty much out for them. One was on gaurd duty, and never left the room she was posted in,i think she died of starvation because something caused her to not go get food.

Ive started to check npcs i see who havent moved in a while, and ive come across a few with very high hunger and thirst even though they were standing right next to food and water sources.

Also, the doctors need to be sued for malpractice.I had one death, and saved one npc from death, because the doctor treated them but didnt remove glass from their wound. Not even sure where the glass came from,as my base has no broken windows (prob from before i rescued them, and they were slowly dying despite medical care the whole time they were with me).

Then theres the "jump offf a second floor balcony"...Came across one dead npc at my base, his body was where he had no rational way of getting to.Keeping an eye on the area,i soon found another npc frozen in a jump animation, just hanging there outside the second story window.Fortunately he responded to being called by jumping back onto the balcony thru the window.

almost forgot, sometimes they simply fall thru the world.Ive got one right now trapped inside the earth,as she fell thru a staircase, and now has no way to get back.

Haha, the malpractice comment made me chuckle. On a more serious note, Nolan might not coded the medic to remove bullet/glass shards. You might have to do that manually. Tell your NPC to 'Hold/Stand still' then you can pull out the shards and bandage the injury yourself.

Good solution except:
1.Hemophobic trait makes it so you panic when tending to yourself and you cannot tend to others
2.Medics bandage the wounds without removing glass and suteuring the wound so survivor dont bleed, therefore showing signs of dying
Nachoman 4 Oct, 2018 @ 10:17am
@LexTexMex Its the only workaround until Nolan fixes the issue. If you have the Hemophobic trait then you willing selected it knowing that you do not plan to tend others even if you enabled the Super Survivors. I was assuming that since you enabled Super Survivors that you wanted to manage them and take care of their needs, including healing them when possible.

If you didn't notice Medics also apply infection removal before the bandages even you don't have an infected wound. Like I said Nolan might have forgotten about removing the glass / stitching deep wounds. Or perhaps he added it but didn't spawn in tools they need. Eg. you need tweezers to remove buillets/shards and suture needle (thread / needle) for stitching.
Tempest 4 Oct, 2018 @ 12:30pm
The docs seem to be pulling the bullets, and doing the stitching ,just not the glass.I know they pull bullets from me,i get shot quite alot :P And i havent come across an npc with a bullet left in them yet.So it might just be the glass.

First off: You assumed wrong. I downloaded this mod to have self sufficient survivors that can fend for them self, do chores, grow food, protect the base and basically add a more "Populated and alive" Apocalypce, but the fun in that is gone if i have to check and tend to every survivor in the safehouse just in case they flew themself trough a sketchy window like a dunce. Im ok with stocking the food/water supply but it sucks that i can't leave them alone without them messing up minorly and dying because of it. I wanted friends, not oversized children.:steamfacepalm:

First all, one no it seems like you wanted slaves to do everything for you but you don't want to help them in any way. Populated and alive means everyone works together, not just the survivor doing your bidding. You help them live, they do chores for you. Simple as that. Secondly, when I said you I mean everyone who downloaded this mod knows that the survivors are supposed to be managed and taken care of. Yeah this is the 'Super Survivor's edition but there are still some issues.Third you know that this mod is a WIP so its not optimized and is missing some things. Again, we know that there issues with the mod and have workarounds but you don't want to do those workarounds. End result, they die. It's not my survivor that dies so I don't care. You might care if it's the coveted farmer or doctor or some other unique specialist but if you don't put effort into it, that's your problem.

We gave you tips/suggestions until fixes are in, if you don't follow them then don't complain.

Nice to know about doctors and bullets. I lost my doctor a long time ago so I haven't experienced it.

Just so we're clear so this dosen't turn into a wierd argument: I posted this as a "I think this is why" to help out with little to no knowledge on how to make mods.

Second; working together? I scavange, build, recruit and command survivors. All im asking is that survivors do the one job i set them out to do without dying needlessly of something i didn't notice or had no control over.

Finally the workaround you gave me was more of an instruction on how you tend to wounds in the game. (Witch i know how to do, sorry i didn't mention) but the problem isn't that i cant heal them, it's that i don't notice them bleeding to begin with becausse my doctors dress the wounds causing the bleeding to stop.

P.S Slaves? I asked them to join and they agreed to:spiffo:

As said again and again, there are issues with this mod and Nolan is aware and will most likely fix them in the future. You're asking the survivors to 'do the one job you set them out to do'. In order for this to work either Nolan has to makes changes to the code or if you know how to fix it, you can do it locally.

No, the workaround is SPECIFIC to THIS mod. There are no survivors/NPCs in vanilla, there's no 'check NPC wounds' command in vanilla, no tell survivor to 'Stand still.' If you didn't notice, if you take off their bandage they will automatically rebandage without removing the glass shards. The workaround is to tell them to stand still so you can remove the shards for them
and bandage them.

Even if they're supposed to be self-managing you should be checking their health at the end of the day. What if they were bitten?

Yes slaves, you promised them the good life but ending up only using them. You're supposed to to make sure they're ok.

To recap, in your OP you thought a cold from rain killed them but later said it was inaccurate. Tempest brought up the issue with doctors not removing glass shard. This looked to be a bug. Then you complained that you needed to babysit these survivors. I keep telling you that even though this super survivor's version is better than the old one you still have to keep an eye on survivors.

You turned this into a weird discussion because we keep telling you that there are BUGS with this mod and that everything isn't peaches and cream. You have no control over some of their deaths because it's most likely a bug. The more reason to keep an eye on them. Yet you seem to complain, complain, complain...

I know i have to use workabouts in early developments. I just think they shouldn't stick around for long seeing as they are very contradicting to the whole "Self sustaining" part of Super Survivors.

The workarounds are not SPECIFIC to THIS mod. You can heal players the same way in vanilla.

Also wtf? I promised them a good life but ended up only using them? Sorry if my unethical treatment of AI is offensive to you, then again thats on you if you get offended.

I am not a modder. I said that cold killed them because my survivors kept dying after it rained. It was a "What if".

I'm complaining because thats what you do when you find a bug you don't think should be in the mod.

Sorry for the confusion, but every time i write a response you come back with 3 extra paragraphs of nonsense.

Do you even know what a workaround (not workabout) is? It's something you do that is temporary until the BUG is fixed. This doesn't apply to vanilla because in general the players themselves can removes glass shards from within their own wounds, in this mod the NPCs themselves can't! So this workaround IS specific to this mod because 1. Vanilla doesn't have living NPCs and 2. This BUG does not exist in vanilla!

Yes you complained first but then I told you the workaround. However you continued to complain even though we repeatedly told you Nolan knows about the issues and to wait for bug fixes.

If my advice is nonsense then you don't have to follow it. Don't do the workaround. Not my world, not my survivors...

Good luck.

Tempest 25 Oct, 2018 @ 12:12pm
so,i was looking thru the survivors files today, and every single survivor i looked in had outdoorsman...So they are probably not dying from cold or weather,
Slok 12 Nov, 2018 @ 9:23pm
I've experienced this as well. If you're in sandbox, make sure the health impact of blood and bodies isn't set to high. I set it to high and in one night me and all my companions died from a fever from just a few bodies laying around (we all went from healthy to nauseous to fever in just a few hours.. albeit, Gore was set to the highest setting). I think something in update 40 might have made this setting a lot more effective. Hope this helps!
(PS, you can tell NPCs are sick because they'll say so themselves.)
