Will survivors leave your group on their own?
There are 2-3 instances where this may have happened with my survivor group.

1st instance: We were being attacked by raiders and one of my survivors was in the front line of the melee combat, then suddenly she retreated, never to be seen again. I searched high and low for a body, but could not find it.

2nd instance: I had a survivor set to guard inside the base. When I went to check on the food supply for the group, I noticed that I had to re-invite her to the group.

3rd instance (possibly glitch): I again had a survivor set to guard the base, I ran off to check on some traps and when I returned he was gone.

Do they leave the group from being hurt too badly in combat?
And will they leave the group if they spend too much time inside (i.e. boredome)?

What reasons would there be for them to leave the group?

Never had them leave my group, but never got really far with the survivors. They sometimes disappear from the game, re-load them with the "Show Group Button" (was U for me by default).
I'd assume they CAN leave the group if they're not getting food/water,

I had to people in a house, but couldn't get them food in time. They left and never came back, but were still shown as group members.
