Syria
In 1936 the French Mandate was divided into administrative districts based on religious and ethnic minorities. Lebanon was 'created' as a Christain enclave while there was an Alawite State around Latakia and the Jabal al-Druze state in the south. If decisions had been made differently by the French government during the treaty process in late 1936, a greater Syria ruled from Damascas may never have existed.
Cameroon
An example of divisions created by Europeans carving up land, large numbers of ethnic Cameroon Highlanders lie in the British mandate which we display as Nigeria; realistically the map needs a few more states which may or may not end up as part of Cameroon. Although the Southern Cameroons portion of the British mandate decided by referendum in 1961 to join Cameroon there is now a movement advocating secession so where those lines should ultimately fall is questionable.
In summary, these questions are complex and often there are not definitive answers. Our goal at this point is to go over things simply the first time (mostly putting in histrocial nations without redrawing too many states) and then dedicate focus to each individual area in turn to highlight more of these unexplored possibilities of history both with regards to smaller factions and wider ethnic groups divided by Europeans.
For example supporting the IMRO could result in releasing the Bulgarian territory to the state and starting the revolution in Yugoslavia's territory, making Macedonia a puppet. You could then use their claim/core on Greece to start a revolution in order to get that territory indirectly through puppet. I think this would have to be a Communist only feature however as the Communist Bulgarian government was the only that ever acknowledged a Macedonian identity at all. I don't know if you are planning to change the DLC focus nations at all but if you were Yugoslavia supporting an independent Macedonia might be more accurate, as Tito was the guy who first game them any sort of recognition in the Balkans.
I think that your tree has a really cool potential to accurately represent that conflict in a pretty respectful way, which isn't really common in this community. Regardless, thanks for making this mod. Definitely gonna be my new R56 for default start date.
