Necromancer viable as summoner?
Heya. While I really like mods that make a game a bit more difficult, my pets/summons as an necromancer seem to suck, really bad. I admit, I'm just lvl 14, and maybe the pets get a bit better, later in game. But seeing my lich getting smashed with only a few hits by an random boss mob, same für zombies, Only skeleton can take a few more hits. I have lich on lvl 1, skeleton horde on lvl 4 (which by the way seems to summon only 1 (one) skeleton by the way, which is quite far awa from having the right to be called horde), enrage undead on 4 and bolster undead on 3. I would like to know, if it aactually makes sense playing an necromancer summoner, seing that even if all skillpoints are put into making the pets viable, changes close to nothing. If I think about TL1, where the nethermage's pets were ok-ish in the beginning, but got awfuly bad later on, I would see no reason to invest time into this kind of necromancer, if his pets get owned really bad already so early in game.

And before I forget, is this mod actually still supported? If not, I could throw it from the drive. Because if the necro is already so unbalanced, as I suppose, I'm sure the other classes are too.

The Frosted Hills are a difficulty spike. Surviving through that part with a melee character (let alone a caster clas) on Elite is pretty impossible, as Elite/Heroic Hulking Slashers can OHK you if they land a critical. Add the slowing effect you're constantly under from most mobs and the heavy-hitting ice spells of the Mirka Frostbinders. Healing potions are no help at all, and rejuvenation potions are only avaliable starting from Act II. You could try and contact the mod developer, nothing else comes to mind.

Thanks for the input. DLed another mod, something mith East, and trying with an ninja in SynergyMOD. But it seems Synergy is actually only an incresed difficulty mod, sadly nothing more. For such an mod, one would need a mod with an insanely OP class, to make some progress. Still going for the ninja. If this does not work Ill try the monster hunter class. Heard its quite OP. Or I'll mod myself a little. Been quite a while since I did it last time...

.... he's not a troll, not really. You're blaming the mod of you not performing well in games. You do realize the classes added by the far east packs are kinda ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, right?

It has nothing to do with it. I have nothing against difficult games, having also aced the Dark Souls series, and XCOM with the mod Long War (where the best humanity has to offer, behave like blind children throwing stones). Other thing. Fact is, that summons aren't worth ♥♥♥♥ in this mod. I havent't wrote anywhere that I am the one always dying. I have no problem to hit and run and not letting enemies hit me. MY problem is that the skill system is broken.
Like already mentioned above, the problem is, that it is impossible to play a pure summoner, due to the fact that the summons are going down in only very few seconds.

Btw. of course my whole gear setup is put on making the summons more viable, with max to summons life, max to summons armor and so on. Still, no good.

In PoE f.e. good skilled summoner witches, are rocking even in late game, but in the Synergy mod, summons suck, the same they sadly allways did in Torchlight, no matter if part 1 or 2.

I haven't had the same experience you have with the mod and specifically, the Necros' summoning/pets. I'm no expert by any means but no issue has stood out to me at all that would warrant questioning about the summons. I steam rolled through Frosted Hills with no issues using the zombies and skeletons. My pet never left my side.

Combat pets in general are kinda underwhelming in TL2.

personally im loving it!

i am playing a vetran dificulty summoner necro as we speak (so to speak).

there are plenty of ways of making your pets better, although admittedly it takes quit a few levels before you are really comfortable with your hoard (and not constantly respawning them as they die). im up around lvl 32 now, and but ive been throwing down pretty hard for at least the last 10 levels. its one of those classes that starts pretty weak, but as you get to higher levels it becomes neigh unstoppable! (i dont yet know the end game however, but its really only going to get better)

ive been collecting all the best minion/pet boost gear i find, ignoring pretty much everything else (even if it has way better stats overall), and using the rare eyes and skulls and chaos chips to boost them even further. currently my gear adds 132% damage, 40% health, and 20% armor to my pets/minions (nearly evey peice of gear i have boosts them in some way).

then you equip all the other summon spells you want (archers, zombies, imps etc.) on yourself and/or your pet, add one or two support spells such as essencebind and/or deathpact (both of which are great!), and you are in business! just remember its strength in numbers more than anything else. eventually there are so many little attacks that most monsters even at your level, just melt under the swarm.

of course, champions and elite monsters can be a different story. i do often find myself runing in circles from monsters that would kill me rather quickly, while spamming through as many as 9+ spells until all the mosters are dead. sometimes there are so many pets that i cant tell where the enemies are at all, only that they are there because my hoard is still fighting... i just keep moving so i dont get killed, and eventually it gets quiet(er).

it can get pretty crazy!

but its loads of fun! just stick with it!
