Patch v.42.0 Startle Mechanic
New Startling mechanic coming to several creatures in the AC2 series mods

Basically, certain creatures when they do their roar, aesthetic or otherwise, will inflict an AoE buff called Startled, ranging in 3 values: Low, Medium, and High, depending on the strength of their roars. Startled will rapidly decrease a set amount of torpor of everything nearby for 1 second, before the creature gets a buff that prevents it from being startled again for a time (think of when a friend does a loud noise to startle you and you "jump awake". If they try to do it again immediately, it won't really work until your guard is down again). As of follows, here's the list. Startling works once before the inflicted becomes immune for 1 full minute:

Low Startle Dinos (-50 instant torpor):
-Herrerasaurus
-Australovenator
-Metriacanthosaurus

Mid Startle Dinos (-200 instant torpor)
-Oxalaia
-Becklespinax
-Dinocrocuta

High Startle Dinos (-750 instant torpor)
-Carcharodontosaurus
-Deinocheirus
-Hatzegopteryx

is there a way to turn this off or a way to fight it with potions or food? most members on my server quit the game due to being too annoying

how is torpor drain, which is often a good thing, a negative one? What were your circumstances?

they just dont like spawning or living on the easy beaches and having a Carchar stunning them each time they step outside. i on the other hand dont have TOO much problems with em i just stay far from them unless i have a bigger dino to sick on it as i shoot it from afar but still have the slight problem where i will see a alpha Carchar spawn then go towards my base at least once or twice a day. i did try fixing the problem by adding some turrets like 6 or 7 and having about 15 or so unwanted breeded rejects as guards but i have had some times where i had to go out and fight them anyway but its alpha so i understand its a hard one. im sorry im just trying to please my members, or at least whats left. would lowering the total of spawned dinos help with my issue ?

Oh!

That's not startle, that's stun. That's a completely different problem!

If you're on ragnarok i could see why that's an issue. Ragnarok has some mountain biomes right next to beaches that carchar can come charging down from and really ruin a beach bob's day.

Unfortunately that's just an issue with ragnarok. Even if you removed ac2, you'd get the same issue with vanilla rexes and allos. Granted they'd be easier to deal with.

if i go in the server settings and lower the dino spawn limit would this help?
Shadlos  [developer] 22 Jul, 2021 @ 7:42pm
that'll lower all dinos regardless of species iirc.

I would suggest one of two things, if you want to remove the Carchar spawns entirely, you can swap it for another dino using

NPCReplacements=(FromClassName="shadcarcha_character_bp_c",ToClassName="[whatever you want to change it to]")

or you can change the spawn weighting for them to make them rarer using

DinoSpawnWeightMultipliers=(DinoNameTag=[dino tag here] ,SpawnWeightMultiplier=1.0,OverrideSpawnLimitPercentage=true,SpawnLimitPercentage=0.02)

This specifically will continue to spawn them from the same spawners, but limit the number of carchar spawns to 2%

i was told that does not work with this mod

and whats this (DinoNameTag=[dino tag here] anyway?
