Or beatrice being able to calm their constructed killerbeehives (and normal beehives during spring) like Webber and their spider nest
Great suggestion. I’ve experimented with similar mechanics but it’s been a while. I will look into this going forward.
Another great suggestion. This one is actually already implemented like this: Currently Beatrice’s queen pheromones will pacify all regular bees around her in spring, not killer bees though, for that players can wear a Beehat, which will stop even killer bees from aggroing them unless provoked (or ordered by Beatrice to attack). What do you think of this implementation?
I think that a really good way to solve that, but personally i think Beatrice should have his own craft involving a beehat that should do what you did to normal beehat to share with other survivors, because only having Beatrice mod installed would mean that any character would just craft a beehat and bee inmune to bees.
I see your point, although just to be clear, the beehat won't make other characters immune to bees, it will only make it so bees aren't immediately hostile towards them. If beatrice orders it or other players somehow aggravate bees, they will still be targeted.
About your idea, supposing there is a Beatrice specific hat, in your opinion, should this hat make other players always friendly to bees? Or should it work more like the beehat implementation?
The beehat already covers the protection part. so its just at yours if you want this item to cover the bee defense.
If a player attacks a bee it should be attacked back in defense. Like all followers do in the game.
(this would increase the health or maybe give them some defense) to be able to fight some bosses that would insta kill normal bees. Also some item that let heal bees in range
After experimenting a bit I altered Beatrice's abilities a bit to allow for "utilizing" homeless bees. Any surplus bees Beatrice can not house with honeycombs currently go to her inventory. I have altered her pheromones to permit these bees to remain homeless, despite Beatrice being able to call them to her with 'z'. As such, she can release them from her inventory and have them pollinate and generate flowers. I may add the separate shortcut as you suggested originally too, I'm just avoiding it for now to try and not complicate keybinds too much while there is no widget or other way to use these functions (like with a controller).
It seems we had similar ideas! In the end the reason I went with "March 20th" was because it is the vernal equinox (typically) and first day of spring in the northern hemisphere.
I've long thought of some capability that would allow Beatrice to better engage with bosses, but I don't think it will be good to have her easily able to fight anything. She is already very good with regular mobs if she has a reasonably sized swarm, for bosses I think her capability needs to require some skill or larger investment on behalf of the player.
One idea I thought of was to give her an additional keybind for a Queen Bee like "screech", which would empower all bees around her with a large shield, but that would only last 1 or 2 seconds. This would require skill from the player to have proper timing in order to defend against powerful attacks.
What do you think? Or how do you see the grumble bee idea being implemented requiring more skill/investment?
To be honest, i think grumbles bees dont fit around Beatrice style, i was just thinking in a way to make Beatrice bees a little more powerfull but not too much.
DTS bosses i all about preparation, more than skill that would protect their bees i would suggest some kind of item that you would need to use to protect your bees so it can be used from the inventory (so you get rid of the need of another keybind), this would encourage the player to farm resources for it. this item could be recharged if depleted or just recrafted again.
It could be something "balanced" like when you use this item you get an aura for a short duration that gives bees some attack damage, mitigation, health or speed capped to work only for the closest 10-15 bees so you have to plan more your fight by moving around commanding your bees to attack and retreat accordingly. And not just surrounding bosses with 300 bees for example.
Those could be a little expensive but Beatrice playing style already covers a big part of the grinding prosses so should be no problem.
This would fit DST style.
add another keybind called battle mode, making Beatrice stationary, it spawns a grumble bee that costs beatrice 15 of their bees to spawn and the rest of the bees follows it normally (so if you have 20 honeycomb you spawn a grumble bee and 5 bees) you start controling the grumble bee and the bees follows what you do.
