If he had an option to cling to you like a backpack, and attack enemies from your back (enemies that are in front of you), then this would be good. Perhaps slow you down by 15% with him on your back. Double click E to make him hop off and start following you again. Hit E on him and tell him "climb up on my back" to get him back on.

I know you're no longer around and my suggestion is useless however.
