Beyond the Wall- Why do half of my men die!?
So I did the Beyond the Wall quest, got to the Fist of First Men, and fought the Wights there. I and my party did remarkably well- the Night's Watch men got slaughtered almost to a man, but mine held up much better.

However, after the battle, 105 of my 218 men are dead and 40 wounded. I knew this wasn't possible, so I reloaded and did the battle again, using the cheat to kill all of the Wights right as the battle began.

And I still lose almost half of my men. This is absurd. Why would you do this quest if you are guaranteed to lose half of your army?! It punishes you for not doing the quest IMMEDIATELY after you begin. If your army only has 20 men, losing half of them to some stupid script isn't a big deal.

But losing 100+ for no reason is a problem. What's the deal here?

Maybe the only way around this, is to stash all of your men in one of your castles, and then go do the stupid quest. After the quest is finished, you can just pick up the men you left behind. I might just cheat my way through this, it's ridiculous.

This is like the Lysa Aran quest, where you kill the mountain clansmen and your reward is LOSING 50 renown and losing 20 relation with the Lord of the Vale. What is with this mod and giving you PUNISHMENTS as rewards for quests?!

dude it is lore based, in the book almost nobody came back alive, even thought night's watch sent 300 hundred men (nearly all of the men capable to fight they had)

Sure. But if we're going with "It's lore based", then it doesn't make sense that my character, a southern Knight, would round up 200+ of his best men, travel all the way north and join the ranging. In the lore, ONLY Night's Watchmen went on this ranging- no southerners stepped in until the Wildlings attacked the wall, and Stannis arrived to fight them off.
