Nothing is gone. You just cna not use previous version save in new one.

if you want continue your game, no other choice than roll back to previous version.

Install it form moddb and copy your save into. I am not sure about naming, so to be sure backup your saves and usubscribe mod on steam first.

Not to mention it appears 8.0 deleted about half the game. Towns, castles, lords, all gone. Did add some new equipment but wtf?

Not sure. Tbh I dont seriously play ACOK for some time. Kozur is always like this, out of nowhere
- instead fix all bugs and balncing issues - he remove and add things, quests, etc. almost randomly.
I am jsut checking new versions time to time so was curious what update is about:p

I am stick with AWOIAF - for long time it is far better and over the years it is continuously !improving! and adding content with reasonable dev that listen to people feedback, fix thingsa and similar. While ACOK is like semi-downgrade mess with every versions since like v4:p

Think I'll have to try the AWOIAF. ACOK just royally ticked me off.

Dont hesitate, you can often find Produno (dev) in communication with people on Reddit or here. He just need keep himself sane as eg. he is blamed for broke game with every update as well (OP:-)

Eg. in last version he allowed wound system as optional - even though it is totally against his mindset and he insisted it should be there and played with wounds, he just gave players what they strongly requested over the years. (and I am not saying at all that dev has to change his mod - but is nice to have one that listen and if nothing else he at least tell you why he does or want keep this and this... and eventually cna be convinced for sake of all:p

Only reason why people dont like AWOIAF is real grim difficulty with Brytenwalda (Viking Conquest) realism and it is bit grindy (though most features can be disabled or lowered in setting - heh even with some 2.5k hour experience in MB I dont feel shame tune difficulty down:p

And companions, for god sake that is only thing I hate - they are from show/book so it dont often make sense make group of them together + you can not disable their clashes so they bother you all time if you want keep full house:p Only this and it would be 10/10;)
