Frequently Asked Questions
I am going to try to create a list of FAQs with some clear answers, to save people asking the same basic things all the time. I will gradually add to it over time.

1. How do I get / launch the mod?

You get the mod by subscribing to it on steam and waiting for it to finish downloading.
Unfortunately, it requires a steam only patch, so you cannot obtain AotR outside of this.

To launch the mod, you have two options:

Firstly, just launch Forces of Corruption, go to options, mods and select AotR. At this point the game should reboot with the mod enabled. This may however take a few attempts.
If you weren't aware, to open Forces of Corruption you need to open Empire at War from steam rather than from a shortcut.

Secondly, you can use the launch options method. Right click on Empire at War in steam and select properties, set launch options. Paste STEAMMOD=1397421866 into this field. After doing this, whenever you launch forces of corruption it will launch with the mod enabled.
If you later want to play a different mod or the base game, simply remove that line from launch options.

2. Argh! This mod / faction / unit is unbalanced!

Well, this isn't really a question, but it needs addressing nonetheless.

Like any good mod, balance is very important to us at AotR and we do value feedback about this. However, please do not try to offer views about balance without having put a decent amount of time into the mod and having tried to play from the other perspective. For example, do not try to tell us that the Empire is overpowered or that ATATs are too strong if you have never played as the Empire yourself or used ATATs against the enemy.

If you have started playing and rapidly concluded that AotR is unbalanced, well I'm afraid your problem is with the difficulty level (addressed below) rather than with balance.

3. Argh! This mod is far too hard!

Part of the design philosophy behind AotR is to make the game much more challenging and to create a deeper, more strategic experience. We are unable to offer more than three difficulty levels, and so these have been changed to Normal, Hard and Expert accordingly.

Because AotR is so different from the base game and from other mods, there is a learning curve involved and new players may find it quite difficult. It is not unusual for people to lose their first playthrough on normal difficulty. However, if a player persists and puts some effort into learning the game, they will get the hang of things and be easily beating the ai in no time.

To get better at the game, take the time to work your way through the tutorial and to read parts of our wiki when appropriate. There are also plenty of friendly people about on steam and on our discord, who would be happy to help you out.

If you decide that you aren't willing to put the time in to learn things, or that AotR isn't the mod for you, then I'm sure you'll find another mod out there that suits you better. Please do not react by moaning about it, as this achieves very little.

4. How do I get / use / destroy 'x'?

This is what we have a wiki for. Please check out Awakening-of-the-rebellion.fandom.com for answers to such questions before asking on steam or discord. Obviously the wiki is a big project so it may not always be updated with the information you want, it which case by all means ask elsewhere.
If you get your answer and are feeling helpful, feel free to add it to the wiki so that others can easily find it in future.

5. Help, I can't load my saved game after the save itself appeared to be successful!

Firstly, did you save in a tactical battle?
If so, this is why. The file is now corrupted and this cannot be undone. We do have a message in game warning you not to do this.

Secondly, if the save file is straight up missing, do you have a huge number of different saves?
If so, delete some and it should become visible again.

6. 'Hi, I'd like to report a bug'.

You may have noticed that we have a separate pinned discussion for bug reports. We also have a dedicated channel on our discord for this. Please remember that bug fixing takes time, and also double check that something is indeed a bug before reporting it. We also need detail on reports. Just saying 'it crashed in space battle' is a bit useless.

Known major bugs include:
- Troops firing at random walls. We know this is annoying, but it can't be fixed without losing the ability to fire at walls at all. As such, we've decided that this is the lesser of the evils for the time being.
-Ship hulls cannot be healed, meaning that if a hull hardpoint is at 80%, no individual hardpoint can be repaired beyond that point. Sadly unfixable.

The above doesn't include various lower priority bugs such as typos, incorrect descriptions, and the occasional graphical glitch.

The following are base game bugs we cannot fix:
- Autoresolve is a broken mess.
- If a player is attacked on the ground, sells everything and then hits autoresolve, the next battle they find themselves in will be autoresolved without being given a choice.
-If a planet has a full 10 unit garrison stationed there and it is blockaded, any unit or building produced will remain at 99% complete until the blockade is lifted.
- If a ship is tractor beamed upon leaving hyperspace it will be unable to move for the entirety of that battle.

There are also a set of things which are frequently reported as bugs but aren't, including:
- Ships being destroyed upon retreating whilst still having engines (they have been hit by stun ions).
- Tractor beams not preventing retreats (we would love to make this a feature, but we can't).
- The ai having units without meeting the planet ownership or mission requirements that a player would have to. This is deliberate because otherwise the ai would simply never get certain units.
- Space stations being downgraded after a battle in which they took heavy damage. This is a base game feature.
- Rebel riot missions failing. These missions have a chance to succeed, which is increased the more of the listed units / heroes you bring.
- The Black Sun bypassing front line planets. This is due to corruption, which is a base game mechanic.
- Empire or Black Sun space build options suddenly disappearing. This is probably because you failed a KDY Demand mission or Shipdealer War mission.
-Being unable to complete an Imperial mission because it is asking you to take probe droids to a planet you already own. You can just put the probe in a fleet with another unit and take it anyway.

7. Does this mod have multiplayer?

Not really. We do not support it and recommend you do not try it.

You can attempt it if you really like, but it comes with some caveats:
- Our main focus is on single player content. Multiplayer therefore isn't as balanced as we would like, especially in the New Republic / Imperial Remnant Era.
- Many AotR features don't work properly in multiplayer.
- As with Empire at War as a whole, and with other large mods, multiplayer likes to desync. There isn't much we can do about that, except recommending you save often. Multiplayer GC is especially unstable.

8. What are your plans for the future?

We're currently focused on an update for our Clone Wars mod, AotCW. Once that's out, we'll switch back to AotR and backport some of the concepts and advancements we've made whilst working on the clone wars.
The backport, which will be AotR 3.0, will be late 2025 at the very earliest.

In the future after that we hope to get round to finally overhauling the New Republic era in AotR.

For more details on our ongoing progress and sneak peaks of new content, check out our discord!
