i have the same problems on all maps with the rebels it randamly crashed and it is completly random stuff monstly upgrades or moving fleets and i never can go vor 40 weeks of playtime sometimes i dont reach even 30 weeks i tryed everthing from complet workshop clean to fixing files i dont have any ideas more
faction: empire
map: grand map, full story campaign
difficulty: normal
In my latest AOTR and TR campaigns I had about 2-4 crashes on average (you will never be able to eliminate crashes fully so always save often, in separate files, never during battles and never save close to end or start of cycle to avoid multiple save files getting corrupted) so it is definitely possible to setup the game to be pretty stable.
The problem is that as the base game is old the tweaks to achieve stability may vary depending on your PC setup and some/most people never have stability issues (until they suddenly do).
Personally I "believe" that these improved stability for *me*, try googling "eaw random crashes" or similar for more tweaks (there are many you can try...) :
1) Starting the mod using the STEAMMOD=...launch option, this because the in-built FOC mod launcher is not very stable
2) Disabling steam overlay in steam settings
3) Setting win xp compatibility mode by right-clicking the two exe files (foc/starwarsG) and checking that option for these files, you might as well check the option to run them as admin also
4) In ground battles, be wary of enemy heroes as they sometimes may cause crashes (base game issues) - if you suspect this to happen use scouts to find them and nuke them from orbit before they can engage you
5) If you cannot fulfil a battle without a repeatable crash then autoresolve it
6) If the galactic map freezes i.e. acts like it is paused, look for the crossed swords battle icon on the map, reload a previous save, and rush that location/planet to prevent said AIvsAI battle that hangs to happen
7) Ensure you have no outdated submods running
8) Try verifying integrity of game files in steam just in case some file got corrupted
^^
I wonder if this is what is causing other peoples games to consistently crash?
I guess i wont be using freighters anymore since they path on their own and can bug the game.
