More Civics in Ethics and Civics Rebuild - No Traditions
More Civics in Vanilla Stellaris
So, I am trying to make a mod that adds the new civics from this mod without the ethics/authorities/ascension perks from this mod. I’ve looked through the civics file and removed requirements for modded ethics and authorities, and have a few questions.

1. What files do I need? Obviously the civics file, and the edicts/buildings files so that the civics unlock what their supposed to. Do I need any other files? (Besides the icons for civics)

2. Do I need to include the new governments?

Hi xnadu27
I will look through the files and try to figure out which are needed and which can go. Hopefully I will be able to get back to you soon on this.

I went through and did some testing. So you'll want to keep these folders in the common/ folder:

armies
building_tags
buildings
deposits
diplomatic_actions
edicts
game_rules
governments
on_actions
opinion_modifiers
personalities
random_names
scripted_effects
scripted_triggers
species_rights
static_modifiers
strategic_resources
technology

I tried it out and you can definitely make a mod with no new ethics, ascension perks, or authorities by having only those folders in the common folder. It doesn't seem to crash or have any game-breaking bugs to me. Whatever folder I did not list got deleted.

There may be instances of files in those folders that reference the new ethics, but also contain vital things which reference the civics that could be broken if the file were to be deleted. So I left them there and you can manually go into the file and delete or alter those things that reference ethics while keeping the civics-dependent things.

Another thing to note, that Gestalt Consciousness' attributes was in the authorities.txt in the authorities under government folder. Since there are no new ethics and I assume you'll replace them with vanilla, there probably isn't a need to have the Hive Mind/Machine Consciousness authority bonuses to balance out normal empires' 5 ethic picks. You can copy and paste Hive/Machine bonus to the Gestalt Consciousness ethic if you want.

So you can leave those folders which I listed, and quickly test it out.

I would keep the new governments as some of the civics are dependent on them. Like Timocracy civic will cause your government would show "Timocracy", and the like.

Hope it goes well for you.

Ok, thanks
Should I also keep the localisation and gfx folders for the icons and text?

I would keep the localisation and gfx folders. If they aren't there, many civics will not have descriptions, and civic will not have their own icons.

That’s what I thought

Also, I really don’t want to overwrite the 00_buildings file, how can I avoid that? The goal was to make it a very compatible mod (only overwriting minimal files: the civics and governments files, maybe some other small ones if necessary)

EDIT: it seems I broke the mod while editing the civics and removing extra ethic requirements. If you could, it would be amazing if you could look at the files and see if I added an extra space or forgot to delete a bracket or something. I’m still very new to modding and it’s hard to understand.

EDIT 2: Yeah, random bracket and accidental space was it, I fixed it
