When you add a new trait, there is a button next to the listed trait which allow you to set the condition for the trait. By default, it is set to 'required' however you can set it to 'pool' which as it to a optional trait pool. You can use it for reducing the amount of re-rolls.

Example is if you need a pawn that can butcher a human without getting a debuff, you can add Psychopath, Bloodlust and Cannibal and set all of them to 'pool' and set 'required traits in pool' to 1. This guarantees at least one of these traits on the pawn.
