Left 4 Dead 2

We Don't Go To Ravenholm
We DO Go To Ravenholm
Honestly, this is an amazing campaign. I always fear that map ports aren't going to take L4D's campaign design into consideration, because why would they? But I actually think that, for the most part, this area feels well suited for L4D anyway. Maybe it's because you're fighting headcrab zombies in the original game, so the level is being designed around "similar" enemies (though City 17 is also good in my opinion, so that doens't really apply).

Enough rambling. I played this campaign on expert and I feel that it is incredibly well balanced. I generally play advanced for custom campaigns because a lot of them tend to do cheesy things that amp up the difficulty a bit too much, but the chapters here flow naturally, and are a reasonable length to avoid major backtracking if an encounter goes south. Tier 2 weapons are provided relatively early on in chapter 2. I had to repeat chapter 2 a couple of times due to other players alerting the tank mid-horde and making things difficult, but the reason I think that was a good thing was because it exposed me to a couple of different tank spawn locations, every single one actually being fun to fight against. Chapter 2 in particular is interesting because backtracking too far leads to a dead end, so I was heavily motivated to stand my ground and riddle the tank with bullets well before he pushed the team too far back.

All crescendo events have a number of places the survivors can hold out. The finale itself is open enough to allow you to kill infected from a distance, but also "cluttered" enough that infected have decent hiding spots. I don't play a whole lot of versus, but I honestly think that with the length of each chapter, coupled with quite a few areas for bottle neck charger/spitter locations and high buildings for hunter pounces, this would work extremely well in versus. Though, I do a comment that says the finale was atrociuos for versus, so maybe the finale doesn't have proper spawn points or it's too easy to defend against infected there?

Honestly, this is a 10/10 campaign for me. It just feels really nice to play.
