When making a multi-part mod for Left4Dead 2, all files should have unique names. Files not used by the game will cause spurious conflict messages, and the mods which contain these files will be marked in red within the game's mod manager.
This includes files which are purely informative and not used by the game, such as "About This Mod.txt" or licensing documents. If you really want to include informational files in VPKs, change the filenames to be unique, like: "About This Mod - 1 of 3", "About This Mod 2 of 3", ...
Additionally, mods created on Windows often have invisible files named "thumbs.db" which are created by Windows automatically. This happens you open a folder which containts images and have Thumbnails enabled. These files are not used by the game.
