Compatibility issue with Hospitality or More Slaves?
I believe that this issue is either just on MFI's side, or it is an incompatibility with Hospitality or More Slaves. Those are the only mods I use that (I think) muck with Traders:

Twice now, the Trading Opportunity event (Traders looking to buy Vegetarian items both times) has not produced a trade caravan nor a group of travelers at the specified date. My mod list is:

If this helps: I run both Hospitality and MFI, and don't have that issue.
(Although, I should add that I haven't used the Trade Opportunity event in a while, so it's always possible a recent update changed something. If the event pops up in my game any time soon, I'll accept the offer and see if they show up.)

Finally got one of the caravans, but it was bugged. It had no name, and when I sold them the requested items (Clothes this time) the silver was not dropped(Edit: I just didn't see it in snow, so disregard this part). So I just lost the clothes with no payment.
