This sort of event would make drop pods/caravans more interesting too - as holding said outpost for an extended period would create a logistics situation. Thematically, it could be part of your allied faction's "war strategy" - hence you are fighting to gain or defend a strategic point like a siege camp filled with mortars, a supply hub filled with pemmican or a new wind/solar farm. Maybe it's a giant ambrosia grove, a gold mine or a field of spaceship chunks? All in all, it would make the player feel like there's a bigger world with lots to fight over (instead everyone being interested in your colony all the time).
