FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. Can I play this mod offline?
The mod can be played offline by using "Practice Mode" found on the Day of Infamy main menu. Bots can also be enabled.

2. Is there Co-Op?
As of the Wintersturm Update (August 2, 2019) Screaming Steel supports Co-Op.

3. What PvP gamemodes are available?
Depending on the map, the supported gamemodes are Liberation, Frontline, Invasion and Offensive. Liberation and Frontline have seen some changes from vanilla Day of Infamy, with the amount of waves increased and spawntimes decreased. This makes the gamemodes more attritional in their style with combat being more instant.

4. What are some gameplay changes?

The class system has been reworked, with some classes having very clear advantages and disadvantages based on their available equipment. While some classes lacks access to sidearms, other classes may have to solely rely on sidearms and other equipment. These changes makes every class feel very unique, and we really feel our varied class-pool has a class fitting for every playstyle out there, all while staying true to real historical roles found on the battlefields of The Great War.

The general gameplay pace in Screaming Steel is also a bit slower than in vanilla Day of Infamy due to the way most of the maps have been designed, combined with the weapons available. In order to push through an open area safely, its necessary to coordinate the attack with your team. Use smoke grenades, fire support and covering fire in order to protect your assault troops. Flanking is also extremely necessary, and a lot of thought and carefulness has to be put into an attack in order for it to be successful.

Close quarter combat with melee weapons is also more brutal and common in Screaming Steel, with weapons like bayonets and trench clubs being very effective up close.

5. Seeing as The Great War is the historical setting, is chemical warfare represented ingame?
The chemical warfare aspect of the real war is currently represented by a Gas Barrage which the Officer of both factions can call in. The gas will linger on the battlefield for a while and will damage players coming in contact with it. This makes it very effective at area denial. Sadly, modding limitations prevents us from implementing a gas mask system.

6. Will you release updates and content post-launch, like maps, weapons and units?
Yes, we have post-launch content planned to keep the gameplay experience fresh, and most importantly to make sure this project has longevity among our playerbase.

7. Will you add more factions and theatres of war?
In contrast to the things mentioned above, entirely new factions require a whole lot more work done, like playermodels, maps, entirely new weapons and voice acting. Our time and resources are limited, and we're all working on this project for free as a hobby. Whole new factions are therefore unlikely to happen in the near future, but we're not completely ruling out the possibility.

8. Will this mod go standalone?
This is highly unlikely, and there are no plans for it.

9. Will the mod have an effect on my experience in vanilla Day of Infamy?
No, the mod does not override any vanilla assets or files. The only thing you need to be wary of is our Custom Voice-over pack, which does override some of the vanilla voice sets. We still highly recommend you to use this pack when playing Screaming Steel for the added authenticity and immersion, but you can simply unsubscribe from it if you feel it ruins your vanilla experience.
