How to Play Occupation
What is Occupation?
Occupation is a REGION CONTROL sandbox gamemode where two teams must fight for dominance in the designated AO (marked by the purple circle). It is intended to provide a slower, more methodical, operation-like experience than vanilla Squad. Occupation is designed to give the players the freedom to choose where they fight, when they fight, and how they fight without the restrictions of standard gamemodes.

Gamemode Mechanics:
Teams win in Occupation when the enemy team has run out of all available tickets. Tickets are lost when players give-up, vehicles are destroyed, or when FOBs are dug up by the enemy team. Tickets can also be drained when the difference between infantry numbers of the two teams is greater than 6 and the bleed/drain occurs every 30 seconds. The primary way to winning Occupation should be the destruction of enemy FOBs or holding a significant numbers advantage on the center point.

Conventional Force FOBs can also GENERATE tickets for your team depending on how close they are to the center (outer 20% generates 5 tickets per radio per 15 mins, inner 20%-80% generates 15 tickets per radio per 15 mins, center 20% generates 20 tickets per radio per 15 mins).

The purple circle denotes the center AO and goes live after 10 minutes of in-game time allowing both teams to find starting positions within the AO.

Infantry Changes:
In the HC mod we have given all soldiers a buff to increase their stickiness on the battlefield in addition to asymmetrical faction loadouts. These changes include all soldiers receiving 3 bandages instead of 2, 2 sandbags to place, stamina tweaks, and revive buffs. Non-medic revives now take ~8 seconds to encourage players to wait for a revive and revive others.

We have also implemented a new suppression mechanic that causes characters to flinch when shot at, so do not hesitate to put rounds down range in order to decrease the accuracy of incoming fire depending on the projectile.

Critical FOB Changes:
FOBs have received a MAJOR rework. Conventional Forces (US,RU are now limited to 2 FOBs per map, have had their construction and exclusion radii increased, and cost 50 tickets when lost. FOBs now have an additional antennae attacked to the radio, cannot be placed indoors, and are only destroyed by shovels. They will also show up on the map to the enemy team 10-mins after placement with in a randomized red circle (to give the enemy the approximate location of your FOB). The intent behind these changes is to fix the stealth FOB meta and to force Conventional Forces to think about FOB placement, defend the FOBs that they place down, and to further emphasize the idea that the FOB should be a BASE.

Unconventional Forces (Mil/Ins) use vanilla FOBs with no changes in order to emphasize that they are irregular forces native to the region and are operating irregularly.

Gameplay Rebalancing Changes:
ALL vehicles now respawn within 120-seconds and will soon have a ticket loss INCREASE. This is to allow armor squads to continually stay focused in their role and keep the platoon organized with the drive in from main to the objective considered the "respawn time". With this vehicle change armor should primarily be focused on dealing with enemy armor as enemy armor will return much sooner to challenge friendly armor. We have also removed ATGM emplacements to further balance vehicle gameplay.

General Gameplay Tips:

  1. Occupation requires much more teamwork between Squads than vanilla gamemodes, your initial choices for where to place your FOBs will determine the first half of the match, so choose locations with strategic value wisely.
  2. Once your initial FOBs are set in place ensure you have a dedicated Squad to defend them and ensure as many infantrymen are within the AO as possible.
  3. As Occupation matches develop a natural front line will manifest. To break this frontline or stalemate Squads will NEED to work together with armor, mortars, and command assets in order to gain ground.
  4. Should your FOB fall, work quickly to return everyone into the AO and establish a new FOB in the zone.
