So, to clarify what most people don't seem to grasp about skins, first off skins don't have to go hand in hand with any design or aesthetic aspects of any of the frames(obviously compared too the ingame model the skins is supposed to be for), secondly skins have to align with the idea/frame concept meaning that this KNIGHT-type of skin is actually way more fitting then the base ingame model we know. why? simply because excal has been designed to be a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ KNIGHT.

to elaborate further on the point why this skin fits so perfectly, well simply because excal being the posterboy he is this rather unique design in comparison to the existing [knights of the round table ;) ] kinghts of the lotus skins, feels like a unique and almost majestic maybe even praetorian addition to the ''skinline'' rounding up the skin theme and the place/role excal plays in the ''Knights of the Lotus''

(someone should make a comic based in these skins, lol)
