I really liked the original when I made it, but I also always had this nagging feeling like I wasn't satisfied with it. I believe the new version better exemplifies what I set out to do, it follows the shape of traditional plumes more than the original.
To me, it feels more aggressive and more 'warrior.' But unfortunately those traits are kind of the opposite of what you described liking about the original...
That's fair enough, I suppose. Although when I think of knight plumes, I still imagine long feathers originating from a single point, like this (some stock clipart)[i.imgur.com] or this (Vindictus armor concept)[i.imgur.com]. I'm not super well-versed in this topic, but I've always thought of the short-feathered "brush-like" plumes as being more of a Greek/Roman thing, whereas your BotL designs have always felt more fantasy-medieval-west-europe to me (which the long, flowing feathers fit perfectly IMO).
I don't suppose it's possible to release two helmets at once for this skin, like what Faven did for the Excalibur Graxx skin (kind of)? Or maybe releasing it as a standalone helmet? I know you weren't satisfied with the original, but if at all possible, I'd still love to have some long flowing head-feathers on my excal one day.
Thank you for responding, by the way!
No, you are right, the current style is definitely more reminiscent of Greek/Roman. It's just that's what I initially wanted to do, and just kind of failed at it haha.
My designs do typically pull mostly from fantasy or European styles, though I also do pull from other areas when I feel it is appropriate and to try and keep things interesting.
I can't really say why I didn't think the more feathery plume like the examples you listed fit Excalibur, there's certainly an argument to be made that it does. I guess I just had an image in my head of what I wanted to do and I can be pretty stubborn lol.
There are still a lot of frames left to do, so I have a feeling someone will get a plume that's a bit more up your alley! Though, I guess I do need to get this one accepted first, it's possible DE could ask me to change it!
The whole thing with Excalibur Graxx was before I started Tennogen, so while I don't know the particulars, I do believe his was an exception that they haven't allowed anybody to repeat since unfortunately.
I look forward to future iterations.
