i cant tell if your being legitimately retarded or not.
the item may not look like how fire looks in this game, but that doesnt mean it doesnt fit the artstyle.
and speaking of artstyle, i wish you people would shut the f#ck up about it, you watched a video made by a popular youtuber & you treat it as law.
art changes throughout the times, and can be interpreted multiple ways by different people, it isnt set in stone how art is supposed to look, thats what makes it art.
Meanwhile TF2 has evolved a wacky setting where anything can happen, it isnt based strictly on the 1970's anymore. i mean when you say something doesnt fit the art style you are deliberatly choosing to ignore EVERYTHING else thats silly in TF2, which is numerous and far exceeds the normal.
finally, because of this outlook, you are slowly killing the game of its creativity, and thereby what makes it unique, by berating others that they should fall in line and start creating cosmetics that are less wacky. The people who want to create wacky items arent telling you guys to stop creating serious items, so why the f#ck are you creating this gap in the community? frankly, of all the community aspects that effect TF2, you 'Art is dead' guys are whats killing TF2
Rapoza, create how you want to create.
You silly bastard
"You watched FUNKe's video." Don't be a sheep. FUNKe didn't invent this topic, and we're not even discussing the same thing he was. He was referring to the concept of certain cosmetics, while I'm referring to what they actually look like in game (which is far more important). This is an important topic for every game that puts emphasis on character customization and art. FUNKe didn't invent it, you're making yourself look like an idiot.
TF2 is a work of art on its own, and performs better when it's consistent with itself. May not be the case for every game, but I'd argue it is for this one.
No one said a GOTTDAMN thing about the 1970s. (TF2's main gameplay takes place primarily in the late 60s/early 70s, btw). TF2 already maintains a wacky and consistent artstyle while still branching out into different and unique ideas (ever heard of the Invasion update?).
TF2 has plenty of room to be creative without killing the game's aesthetic, or more importantly, its heart. Visuals are everything when it comes to the type of a vibe a game gives off. When it gives us an inconsistent and lazily strung together excuse for a visual medium it feels boring and unimportant, which I don't want for TF2, even if it does work for certain games (SMITE, for example).
Hats/cosmetics are important to this game. You're acting like you're a champion of them when really you don't care about them at all.
Anyone can create anything they want but that doesn't mean it should be added.
Think about what you're gonna say before you say it so you can make actual points.
Also adding, not saying this should or shouldn't be in the game, has anyone seen the original minigun muzzle effect? It's similar to that. Why it isn't used currently? Maybe because it looks too cartoony, or because a particle system does a better job, I dunno; only VALVe knows for sure.
you know someone wants to argue when they attempt to correct every single thing you say, including something you said correctly.
This looks really nice, and i can see it being added into TF2, but if it was added, it would be really expensive, as it's one of those cosmetics that look funky and weird, like the Chicken Kiev, It's Weird and funny, and it's gosh darn expensive, but heres the thing, alot of people are having a whole war over this cosmetic, and i dont really see the point in that, as yes, it may not fit with the artstyle, but the counter arguement to people saying, "This dosnt fit with the artstyle." Is just saying that they watched that video, and that they just praise popular TF2tubers, which is not a good counter arguement, but in my opinion, i think this is great, and should be added as it looks really nice, and depending on the theme of this haloween, it would fit great, but it should be haloween only,
Anyway, im done wih this, but it's a great cosmetic idea, and yeah,
Even if the characters themselves are given cartoon proportions, the inhuman elements (fire, bullets, gravel, buildings, guns, literally everything but the human characters) all highly resemble their real world counterparts. This item doesn't resemble existing fire in the game, it looks like a character in Super Mario[vignette.wikia.nocookie.net].
Saying this item fits the TF2 art style "because it's cartoony" is like saying Jojo's Bizarre Adventure and Adventure Time, in their distinct original styles, would fit perfectly together. It's simply not correct. Even the existing in-game hat directly based on Super Mario is really just an nondescript cap and mustache. We do have a few hats that push the boundaries way harder but let's be honest, when have you ever seen anybody praise this hat, let alone wear it?
That being said I like the OP's idea in concept. If he made it look closer to the actual in-game burner flame[i.imgur.com] and tweaked the eyes I think this hat would be a real winner.
