Custom Charecter Compatibility Guide
New Method
This method works for me follow the steps bellow and maybe will work for you too. PS: Before start the guide, unsubscribe of all addons in this case, arms and custom survivors, then close the game and open again for start the guide.
PS: Step nine through twelve are exclusive to custom survivors that do not come from the steam workshop.
  1. Unsubscribe from all your custom survivors

  2. Subscribe on the arms you desire

  3. Close the game

  4. Go to: steam\steamapps\common\Left 4 Dead 2\left4dead2\addons\workshop

  5. In this folder all your addons are registered, look for the image of the arms, now see its name (it will be a numerical sequence), so copy the file that has the same number sequence, but the final extension is VPK

  6. Copy the VPK archive for your addons folder: steam\steamapps\common\Left 4 Dead 2\left4dead2\addons

  7. Open the game

  8. Now subscribe on all survivors you want

  9. Now close the game again

  10. Go to: Steam\steamapps\common\Left 4 Dead 2\left4dead2

  11. Open the archive "addonlist"

  12. In this command line put the actual addon name of the arms and gloves as the first in the list and then between the quotation marks "" put the number 1
Exemple: "AddonList" { "[Arms][Pack][Professional]All Gloves.vpk" "1" "workshop\CUSTOM SURVIVOR.vpk" "1" "workshop\CUSTOM SURVIVOR.vpk" "1" "workshop\CUSTOM SURVIVOR.vpk" "1" "workshop\CUSTOM SURVIVOR.vpk" "1" } Remember this is an example, your "Addonlist" will be the name of the addons you are currently subscribed to. The actual name of the arms and gloves is most likely not the same as the example, to be sure of which name you should do do the following: After completing step 6 go to your addons gallery (in game) and see which addon the arms and gloves are conflicting, the one that does not have the addon image on the whorkshop page will be the name you need to put first in your "Addonlist".

  13. Run any map (who have your custom survivor) and see if it worked

in this folder: "steam \ steamapps \ common \ Left 4 Dead 2 \ left4dead2 \ addons \ workshop" will've two types extension files, JPG and VPK extenssion. That folder is where you stay all your subscribe addons when you click in steam workshop to subscribe (in left 4 dead). All addons are identified by your id (numerical sequence) and with your picture, that thumbnail when you see in steam workshop. Both JPG and VPK with the same numerical sequence are from the same item you subscribe. Summing up: The JPG file extension is for you to identify the true file (that contains the files that will replace the game). So you just need to copy this file and paste it into the previous folder.

VPK: extession used for source engine for compact a group of files and folder (like 7zip or winrar)
JPG: extenssion for pictures or images.

Hello and I am confused about the step 12.
Could you please give an explicit example about how to replace the Arm argument in the first command line.
For example, if the custom survivor vpk file has the name:11111.vpk, what should I do for the first line?

I need to update this guide... bellow of the step 7 is optional, to be honest is totally unnecessary. Just copy the add-on from workshop folder and drop on add-on folder. The alternative way to make compatible with custom survivors is: Open the custom survivor add-on with gfcsape, extract the root folder to desktop, then go models\weapons\arms then delete all files inside. Convert the root folder to vpk extension (will need dev tools) and paste the changed vpk in add-ons folder.
