Cheers!
Red Horse tech is for those who intend to stay mid-industrial and are not in a hurry to advance to Late-Industrial(Multi-Analyzer) and Spacer tech.
RH Tech tends to be better and more easily accessible than their vanilla counterparts, but is harder to upgrade in the late game than if you just stuck it out and used vanilla industrial tech. For example, the Red telephone, PC Comms Desk, and mailbox are a very fast way to reach comms, but cannot contact Orbital Traders for spacer transactions. The PC Research desk gets you a pretty fast way to get industrial research, but cannot help with Spacer-level projects. The Military Cot bed has the footlocker, but you will be forced to throw footlockers away when you upgrade to VFE's Spacer Beds.
That in mind, I suggest gating all RH Tech in its own tech tree (i.e. the same one you filed Get to the Chopper techs under). From a player choice standpoint, RH Techs will serve as the "short-term benefit" option: RH Techs are far cheaper to research and deploy than vanilla techs that do the same thing, but if you choose to invest in the RH Tech tree, you will be delaying your progress in the tech tree, since none of RH Techs actually advance you in a meaningful way. This RH Tree could look something like:
"Patrol Bases (100) (Req: Complex Furniture)" -> Unlocks Portable Stove, Stool, Ammo Table, Floodlight
"Forward Operating Bases (Req: Complex Furniture, Patrol Bases)" -> Unlocks Cot Bed and Footlocker, Chairforce, Armchair General, Office Lamp,
"Military Communications (Req: Electricity)" -> Unlocks Mailbox, PC Comms, Military Radio
"Military Rations (Req: Survival Meals)" -> Unlocks Vending Machine
"Secret Ration Project (Req: Military Rations)" -> Unlocks Miller's Maxi Buns
These are just off the top of my head. If you're interested in implementing a balanced tech tree, let me know and I can put effort into designing it or possibly even trying to implement it myself; I need the excuse to try my hand at modding Rimworld.
If you choose to play as one of your many PMC factions like MSF, these techs would be granted in place of their vanilla counterparts.
While we're at it, I suggest Get to the Chopper serve the same niche relative to SRTS expanded: a short-term "I want it now" option. Right now all GttC techs are considered Spacer, while SRTS techs are Industrial. This should be the opposite, and GttC will get you Aircraft relatively quick and cheap, but provide no progress toward researching SRTS.
For now it isn't my priority sadly, so I can't get back on work into it. Pardon me but I am so so busy, doing other projects in my free time
