Void Shards
Greetings! I'm loving the idea of void shards, however, I do not like that you completely removed the random relic and gold rewards from quests.

Previously, I would actually go out of my way to complete a quest if I knew it gave me something I liked (like buying a bad card to get the money). This was a cool addition and made the game feel more vibrant.

With the introduction of shards that track across runs, it really rewards us for completing quests in the long haul. However, it takes a very large amount of shards to even obtain one item, and if that run then ends quickly, we wasted the shards we had been saving up. Plus, in order to spend the shards we need to go on a path that might be crappy.

Instead of just giving us shards, keep the old rewards, but keep the shard system too. That way we have gold/relics for our current run, and then we are also obtaining shards for possible future runs.


TL;DR

Please add back in gold/relic rewards in addition to shards. These shards make quests feel a lot less rewarding.

i have to agree though i like the shard system it can sometimes not add much to individual runs.

i do like the idea of void shards, a curency only for infinite spire, but i dislike that the shard remain between runs. it would be better, imo, if they didn't remain, there were more ways to get them (because otherwise it would be near imosible to but something with them) and maybe some cheap options (example 1 shard=some max hp, 3 shards=some gold, some shards for a ransom relic), which miht be repeatable.

I agree that the shop is a bit too expensive. I will be adding features for the shards as time goes on, I do want them to be a thing that sticks around between runs as things move forward.

First of all, I love your mod and thank you for your hard work. I prefer the old gold system over void shards however. I never get a chance to visit a shop until the second run, because I always have to choose between the nightmare and void shop. I don't know if this is intentional, or just my luck. I was wondering if it is possible to add a "config" option in-game under the mods tab to revert the shards to the gold quests. Even if not, I will continue to use it! Thanks

I would prefer to keep void shards, if you (or anybody reading this) have any suggestions for how I can improve upon void shards let me know!

I am considering making void shards "decay" over time so you can't accumulate as many of them. I am also considering putting Avhari's shop on the first floor as well, since it doesn't make a whole lot of sense it will encourage spending more.

The quest system is my favourite part of your mod but I think only getting shards from them is taking a lot the fun out it since I no longer have to make calls on taking/doing risky stuff to complete quests. Might make sense to have shards as one of the possible rewards for doing quests instead of the current way where you only get shards? Also might be worth considering putting the shard shop as something that pops up after defeating a boss. I agree that being able to hoard shards isn't great since it makes for giant swing acts especially for those of us just doing standard 3 act runs. Also thanks for making sts that much more fun :)

i might have an idea how to improve, as i see it, there are 4 options on which you might agree
1. keep the system like it is now. Sure there are haters (probably a too strong word, not-likers?), but it is your mod, you make the call and is quite unique compared to other mods.
2. change it partly, make it so some quest give gold, some give shards, some give other stuff, like potion slots. It would make it so some quest will be taken/tried to be completed in hopes for having a better current run, and some will be if you think the current run is doing well enough or so bad it won't ever make it.This way, i think both parties will be happy, but it would not be my own choice. still, this might be worth thinking about.
3. combine them. this might look like the second choice, but, imo, this one is better. Quests should give you gold AND shards, i think that will be the best option, as, now you want to complete all quest for the current run and any future ones. It is the best of both worlds. Of coarse, you can still make some quest that only reward gold or shards, but most should give both. also whenever i say gold, it can also be another reward, like a relic.
4. make it a option in the config thiny when you launched slay the spire and click mods. something like enable shards [_](<- checkbox).

also, another thought about void shards, maybe make some relics that interact with them. something like Void Gun: Right click to active, spend 1 voidshard and deal X damage (i'm not the mod creator, don't know what would be balanced) or cards even, like Spare Shard: Gain a Void Shard. Exhaust.

I agree with this.
The best part (imo) about this mod wasn't the 'infinite' part, but rather the new content and the quests.
I haven't played STS in a few months now, so when I started again today I was kind of sad that you had replaced the quest rewards with these void shards.
I still prefer playing with this mod than without, but less so than before.
It's your mod though, so do what you want! :)
My suggestion is to make Void Shards an *additional* reward in addition to the normal rewards (maybe increase the price of the shop so that it's less of a pure buff

I think shards are perfect like they are. However i would say the items hold shards and if your run ends too soon after you bought something it should refund shards the refund should decay when with every floor you climb after you bought something.
I would like to see more nightmares.

hi i like the shard being kept from run to run :)
its the only way for me to get enough lol - but im still new.

i think since they are quest rewards (mainly so far), it kind of makes sense that you keep them, because sometimes a play through might not unlock many at all, but then you can claim and use them in another future run :)

I'm all for any changes to the shard mechanic itself. Especially since they can't be quantified, scanned for with programs or even kept for long.
