Dev Blog III
I had some time in the last days to work on the mod and I was quite busy.
Here is a list of the most important stuff I have done so fare:
  • Added Judea as a new faction, which will spawn when the Jewish revolt starts, with three lords and a king; player can also start the unrest now without looting the temple, for this you must worship JHWH and have some renown, then you have a menu option to start the rebellion when you visit the temple in Jerusalem
  • Added second outfit from VC, it was quite easy and really adds to the game
  • Reworked how the senate works. Now you have a support rating, which shows the fraction of senators supporting you. It works as follows:
-senate scene: you can visit the senate, during meetings there are senators sitting around
-senate meetings will be after a random number of days
-player can order senate meetings if he has a proper rank in Rome
-as emperor: if player want to change laws, he needs a 50% majority
-as emperor: if player want to legitimize his rule he needs 67% majority (2/3)
-player can increase support with speeches during senate meetings
-player can bribe senators during meetings by talking with them (amount of needed money depends on relation with Rome and player renown)
-support will decrease: depending on relation with Rome and player honor and relation with Nero (senate don’t like Nero)
-support will change depending on decisions in certain events (supporting Nero leads to a decrease)
-when the player starts a civil war with high senate support, it is more likely that governors will join his rebellion, if player has positive relation with them
-you can disable/enable messages, which inform you about meetings
  • Some changes to Roman Empire stability: You will be informed when it increases or decreases
  • Fixed some minor stuff
  • Added a cutscene when you legitimize your rule in the senate
I also noticed in the code that it is currently not really possible for the player to be elected as marshal when the player is part of the Roman faction as commander. (I always wondered why I never got elected) I am currently thinking about honorary titles for Rome and together with this, the marshal election get some changes. I thought about four titles:
  • Censor (number: 1): player can start senate meeting, player can sponsor games, renown cant go below a certain threshold, player can embezzle imperial taxes
  • Consul (number: 2): player can start senate meeting, player can sponsor games and hold triumph marshes in towns, renown cant go below a certain threshold, only consuls can be elected as marshal (?)
  • Aedile (number: 3): player can start senate meeting, player can sponsor games, renown cant go below a certain threshold, player can embezzle taxes from Rome
  • Quaestor (number: 4): player can start senate meeting, renown cant go below a certain threshold, player can embezzle taxes from Rome
I am not sure if only consuls can be elected as marshal or if it would be better to give the marshal the title of consul after he is elected. I am also not sure if the title should be displayed in the name, I don’t think this would be a good idea. Another think I am currently not sure is how to assign the titles to the Lords, I think it should mainly depend on relation with Nero and renown and Nero should redecide every 3 weeks or 4 weeks to reassign a title to someone else, if the person has a too low relation with Nero.
Player should also have the chance to get a title via some kind of intrige, otherwise I think it would be difficult for the player to get a title.
If anybody has some ideas about that, let me know.

Happy new year!

Happy New Year!
Very good ideas in place, I just can't wait to test them myself!

Ambitious mod! Excited to see how it ends up, I appreciate giving some extra attention to the senate, would it be possible for the player to reinstate the republic as an ending scenario or is that to complicated or unrealistic?

Other sick work! Love Rome mods!

As side note: what is village distribution based on?
I always wanted to consolidate my domain in Italy as Emperor/when aspiring to Imperatorship, but some villages belong to castles/cities outside Italia and such holdings obviously move out once centers in question (Carthago and one castle in Pannonia) move out of the Empire.
If can I ask, is there any way to bring them into Italian administration?
Could you do that for the next uptade?
Also - how could you encourage Kaeso Flavius to exchange Genua and Argentum for something else (say, outside of Italy).
I really find it frustrating that I can't turn Italia into proper Imperial holding akin to Egypt in OTL.
Could you find solutions to that in the next uptade or explain to me how could I solve it within framework of current mechanics?

@adriankowaty, the change fief stuff is from diplomacy, I think I only used it one time: When you have a positive relation with a Lord you can exchange fiefs with him, he accepts depending on relation, persuasion skill and trade skill.

The villages are assigned like the following: firstly, every castle gets one village, the closest one. The other villages are given to the towns, again the closest ones. But you are right, I also never liked the way the villages are assigned to castles/towns.
If you want to change it you can maniplate your save game. You must search for the village and then search for: slot_village_bound_center
you must set this slot with the value of the ID of the town/castle you want to assign to the village. You can find the ID in the parties.txt file in the mod folder. Example:

1 27 27 p_town_6 Roma 4219945 0 0 3 0 0 0 0 0 -154.149994 13.250000 -154.149994 13.250000 -154.149994 13.250000 0.0 0
6.195919

This is what you find for Rome, the ID of Rome is 27
Ah and dont forget to make a backup of the save before you mess around with it

I am afraid I have no competence in programming, so I would most probably do a mess with it.
I just noticed that two villages in Italia (Venezia and Lilbaeum) belong to centers outside Italy (Heraclea? and definetely Carthago) and it happens in every single game.
As for Kaeso, I have 69 relations with him at this moment, and tried even at 100, but even if I propose him rich city in exchange Genua he says he doesn't want to give it up.
So I think there is another factor which overwrites the previous ones.

As for another stuff, could you consider weaponry improvement system from VC?
I find it shameful that my toga or spatha always stay of the same quality and never improve. I understand wearing/using ordinary quality stuff for beggar or low Roman citizen, but for Emperor there should be something better.

As for another stuff, what about opportunity to add other countrywide edicts to pass by the Senate?
Right now you can only pass Edictum Christiani and legitimize yourself. And do Constitutio Antoniana reforms.
But what about reforms from "Five good Emperors" period?
I mean - we already have Karakalla's reforms from as late as third century, what about reforms conducted by Trajan and Hadrian (and to lesser extent Nerva and Antoninus Pius)?
I could give a bit of content to the Senate, which by mid game I usually only ignore, except for dealing with libellis.
I would gladly for example pass Trajan's alimenta for the poor and orphans or introduce Hadrian's amendments to slave law.

I wanted to refine my weapons in my last play, but I wasnt able, so I added the feature already. But it seems I forgot to add it in the devblog

more laws and edicts would be nice, yes
RMTH 22 Jan, 2020 @ 3:01pm
hey add a different mode like crisis of the third century and new laws and edicts like split the empire which will increase income and get the option between east or west and another law and edict would be constantine reforms which all vassals will stay on the defensive and new units that are better in sieges and in crisis of the thirst century new factions like sassanids goths huns
