Talk to the guy at the barracks and assign their gear. The UI for it is a little unusual, you have to move the pieces to the right place.

When I edit my soldiers' equipment, I put the armor on myself. This is very strange. Please help me fix it.

Like I said, the UI is a bit weird. You have to put it in a different place. It's been a long time since I played, so I can't screenshot you exactly where. Just look around and find where it's supposed to go.

the problem was solved when I left the soldiers' equipment in their inventory..

in the party section, next to the names of the soldiers, it says “custom” when it should say which legion they are from, do you know how to fix this?

You simply talk to them and assign them armor and weapons, which automatically appear in your inventory. Just give it to them and they will wield it once they are hired. Note: the Vexillarius and Aquilas include the Biggus Dickus legion banners. I always use them.
