My review of Runaway: 911 (SPOILERS, DO NOT READ UNLESS YOU HAVE BEAT THE MAP)
If you're a fan of games such as Silent Hill and Resident Evil, then Runaway: 911 is definitely the Gmod horror map for you.

The use of cutscenes was extremely creative, much better than maps like "Hell's Resort" where they just throw you in the map without any context other than a poorly constructed story.

As far as jumpscares go, they aren't your standard random PNG's popping up in front of you in a long spooky hall, they're actually MUCH higher quality than that, for example: when you exit the second crawlspace you encounter, a dead corpse will land in front of you accompanied by a sharp (and loud) orchestral strike.

Puzzles aren't overly complicated, my advice to anyone who plays this map is to take things slow and pay attention to everything.

It's a nice long map that'll take maybe around 15 to 20 minutes to complete, and the ending is not something you would expect.

Now, whilst I've praised this map for it being so good, there are a couple of things I would like to point out to the map creator (n!tex) so the map is a bit better.

My first complaint is when you start the game, it refers to the killer as "the unknown" but when you get to your first objective it says "find the killer."

If I were the map creator I would replace "the unknown" in the beginning with "the killer" since this was a case that was going on for a while.

My second complaint is that when you enter the office area (where all the wooden filing cabinets are) you come across a piece of paper with a drawing on it, that depicts the plus-sign-shaped key either being in or needing to be put in the wall of the fireplace on the first floor.

I've tried both options and it doesn't seem to work, now I'm not sure if that's an issue with my game or if that's just something that was overlooked.

Over all, I would have to rate this map at a 9/10, it's very nicely made and very creative, you'll forget you're even playing Gmod in the first place!

Nice review. But how did you get out of the part where you have to escape the cell? that one with the skeleton

Well. I would rate it 5/10. Just a normal map. Not scary at all, cheap jumpscares, yeah maybe custom models are good but they're just models. Not very good atmosphere, maybe just at the start, but then the atmosphere slowly.. i mean QUICKLY comes down.

Playing through the map a second time, I'd have to agree with you, mainly because now I know what's going to happen.

But if someone else is playing it for the first time, they might really enjoy it.

In the news paper (The Washington Post) found on the 1st floor, its photograph depicts a meat knife stabbed into a circular desk (as the crime scene inferred). In the officer's vision scene, we got to see the Walker family at the same desk that was portrayed in the press, but the knife was missing.

Sunday, March 13, 1982, The Washington Post reported that the entire Walker family was brutally murdered by multiple criminals except for the supposed missing "son" of the family. While it is not entirely clear if the murderer was Mike West, the police station criminal post said Mike West was born in 1979, making him 3 years old. Either this is a mistake or Mike West was not the culprit. It may be something that we will see in the Runaway:911 part 2.

That could very well be, I'm not sure if this map is getting a part 2 or not, but if so I'd love if it went with that story!

Nothing is happening through 80% of the game , nothing but walking through dark af hallways , finding tiny things through pile of trash , secret coins are too small to find , map is too big and dark.

Oh , u said its ,,scary map'' ? yeah , it is scary , when you are afraid of darkness.

No tips , mediocre english , maybe 2-3 jumpscares , the only good little things are those newspapers with not very clear tips what to do next (not clear i mean there was a picture on one of them to press brick on the fireplace , and there was drawning of the key , i did what was on the picture but i got no key)

I would like to give this map a chance and put it on my ,,shelf with good maps'' , but excuse me , police officer with no gun is no police officer at all.
