Whispers of Winter
Whispers of Winter - Review by Endless
★★★ 3/5: Lovely to look at, but annoying at times

I have always been a fan of themed campaigns. Winter in particular, is a theme I enjoy quite a bit. I feel it goes naturally with the zombie genre, creating a satisfying sync. This campaign manages to give that mood thanks to a nice use of frosty visuals. The abandoned areas, the falling snow and the dark night are solidly done. The visuals, in general, are stable, although at times there are some things that look a bit janky, particularly the river in the final map.

But the visuals are only part of the experience. A central focus is the gameplay, and sadly this map left me exhausted. The first few maps are quite fun, but it quickly devolves into a grind that is just plain annoying and bitter. The map where you have to shut down some power generators is extremely annoying, especially because the paths are made in such a way that they are inflexible, difficult to access and confusing. The bots in particular are more of a detriment than a help in this type of map, so don't expect to enjoy it much if you're playing alone.

The finale is lackluster and its design just pushes you to camp. Add to that a linear and numerous hordes spawn points, and you have a map that feels artificially challenging.

Anyway, it wasn't the best experience, but it wasn't the worst either. It was annoying in certain maps, but others, the first ones most of all, are more enjoyable. This campaign requires polish, but it's playable.
