Read If You Crash on Map 3
im aware of the crashing on Map 3, to be real all my beta testers and myself didnt run into any crashes. However when I released it, that's when I got people saying there's crashes. Wokgui is right tho, a lot of PC's and laptops are not are not strong enough to run certain campaigns, and your ingame settings, mods, and what your playing l4d2 on can effect whether it crashes or not.

As far as the question tho? "Why don't you fix it, Honest?" great question!

The answer is I have no idea what is causing the crashing on lower end machines. I seriously have no idea what causes the crashing, it could be a random room in the map that causing issues, all the way to a single brush that's not detected by the engine, the problem is the Source Engine doesn't tell you "Hey fix this its crashing because of this" It just crashes that's all.
The map is optimized, in fact its more optimized then the previous updates LOL that's how the lighting is HDR lighting. But the sacrifice of having HDR Lighting is its more unstable, and lot of maps have similar problems with this throughout L4D2. And l4d2 is based on the source engine which is a two decade old engine that is easy to break.

So I personally don't think the issue is fixable on my end because I have no idea what is causing it or how to fix it, so it just is what it is. I recommend turning off mods like other people have stated.

But yea I don't know how the crashing is occurring for those who are experiencing that, it could be a random prop in the map that's undetected to the source engine. It literally could be anything, the engine doesn't tell you why unfortunately. So the "Just fix it" argument is literally not possible when I have no idea what to fix.

In fact if people want to take a stab at fixing it yourself! Be my guess and I'll include the fix in a future update. But I attempted fixing the crash for multiple days straight and it was just not a good use of my time.

-cheers

for those who enjoy the update tho, thank you

i may have install a few mods (just weapon skins and custom campaings) but i guess the solution i can do is wait and i hope you'll manage to figure out (also one thing but i really like this campaign especially the sledghammer as well, wish they add that weapon as a official)

Hello, Honest.

Can you republish the previous version of the map in the workshop?
You can name it "Whispers of Winter - The Old Version".

This would be the only solution for those who can't play the new version.
I look forward to your response. Have a nice day!

I always get the crash in the third map. I leave the Safe Room and climb down a ladder. There is a big building that I have to walk through. The building has train tracks inside of it. I always see an ammo pile on the ground before I start walking through that big building. The game doesn't crash while I'm walking through that building. The game crashes as soon as I leave the building and start walking towards the parked train cars. Then, there's a snow-covered hill that I must walk up and enter another building. The previous version of this campaign never had that problem. I kept the previous version. It hasn't crashed once.

Hello, Brian. I added you on steam. Can you please send me the previous version? You can upload it to an upload site and give me the link.

I can't just upload a version of this campaign to some file-sharing website without the author's permission. I told the author of this mod exactly where the game is crashing when I play this campaign. If he can't fix the problem, then you are not going to get a solution. There's the possibility that I could upload the previous version of this campaign to the Steam Workshop, but this is not a file-sharing website. I can't just click on a button and upload a compressed file to the Steam Workshop. You will continue to have problems like this unless you download custom maps from the GameMaps website and keep backups of them. A custom map will not usually cause Left 4 Dead 2 to crash to the desktop, but newer versions can be less optimized, or they will include content that you do not want. You could easily keep hundreds of old maps and mods stored on a USB drive.

I think I found a solution for the crashes:

Switch. To. Vulkan. Rendering.

Ever since I switched to it, my L4D2 experience is crashless and smooth, even with multiple addons installed. I just played through the whole map without any crashes. I don't know about your PCs and your graphics cards, but you should definitely try it.

Obviously, the firsthand experience is going to be filled with lagging and stuttering, and the menu will stutter too. So here's a link to a youtube guide on how to switch to Vulkan and not deal with the menu glitches.

The stuttering and lagging issues will be gone overtime.
