Kenshi
Compressed Textures Project
Specifics regarding the DDS options please?
Hi,

I'm working on my own texture mod, and i figured since i use your mod, i should probably include your mod in the texture changes. I am "borderlands-ifying" the textures, giving things a "cell shaded appearance". Its been YEARS since i messed around with the .dds container, and i have a couple questions that i feel you could answer.

1. in a vain attempt to see how nice i could make the game look, i up-scaled all the (stock) "newland" texture files to 4096. I kept alphas unchanged, and used DXT5 compression to save the textures. after unloading your texture mod, i loaded the game up and well.. all the ground is black.. Do you know if there is a texture size limit for the land textures specifically? the buildings, animals etc. that i did this process for all worked fine, but the land textures specifically, i cannot seem to get working.

2. I was under the impression the stock textures were already DXT5 compression, but your mod states that you are using that, stating it as an improvement. what are the original textures in that case?

3. Using Nvidia's DDS plugin for photoshop, when i do a 3d preview of a texture with alpha, i notice DXT1a is a much smaller image. is there reason not to use this instead of dxt5, or am i getting erroneous results?

4. I am still VERY new to kenshi (3 weeks since i found it existed), and i do not know what the mod scene is like, or honestly how to even properly setup and publish a mod. Assuming i get all that figured out... May i have your permission to use your texture mod as a starting point for a lower resolution cell-shaded style texture mod? Thanks if so!

5. Not a question - just hope you are having a great day. i've really been enjoying the performance gains using your mod and i have a lot of respect for your work.
