Grapple Gauntlet

Why not make this a weapon
This could work as great weapon with some kind of stats like this.
You can only upgrade your building up to level 2
You can use this melee as grapple hook with right click to get into highgrounds and to have faster escape options

Yes I agree but we already have a game mode dedicated to the grapple hook so maybe you fire it at someone then it goes back to you and there is a 15-30 second recharge to do it again.

you know that an't a bad thing. maybe you can make it into a reskin for the Gunslinger

We should also remember that coding takes time, I am not expert in this but I assume it takes more than just moddeling. Still I belive that this would be intresting option for engieneer (as a melee), since the only game changer for him is gunslinger. Other weapons just make your wrench faster, or etc. They don't change the game by much, sure some people appreciate faster building time and etc. But this is just personal choice that makes you stronger in some aspects and not much more.

I'd say modelling takes longer. Assets often cost more than programmers.

The Engineer doesn't need to be able to get up to highground and escape quickly, that's what his teleporters are for.

But if he can't get to high ground or escape with his teleports, whats the point. Teleporting takes to long to make a proper escape, and engineer can't get to high ground without building a level 3 sentry and rocket jumping. The grappling hook would make a great replacement for his secondary and would be perfect to escape his dying sentry nest or even get up to high ground to have a defensive/offensive nest that could be hard to destroy.

I think it is also worth mentioning that there are only 2 classes that don't have really many movement options, engineer and heavy. Sure engineer has it, but it doesn't give you any benefit so why bother.

I agree that it would be ' perfect ' for escaping your nest, that's exactly why it's a bad idea.

Engineers should be invested in their buildings, when they build a nest they should either drown with their ship, or gauge the situation and thus back out early.

Having an instant escape tool removes all the stakes of building, and makes Engineer far more mobile than he should be.

Sentry jumping with the wrangler is a great alternative that actually requires skill to execute, and requiring a level 3 sentry beforehand keeps the Engineer from flying around the map like a madman as well.

This could have a cool down as well maybe.
Here is idea's for stats:
Pros:
+50 more heath
+25% damage invulnerability
+25 more damage
+25% attack speed
+Can grapple onto enemies and upon impacting them dealing massive damage and knock back depending on how far you grappled them from
+grappling onto an enemy increases the grappling retraction speed
+4 charges
+upon getting a kill gain 50% movement speed for 10 seconds

Cons:
-Can't make sentrys or any other buildings
-50% more vulnerable to melee attacks
-bleed or jarate or madmilk debuff prevents weapon from working temporarily
-grappled target can prevent grappling impact by meleeing at the correct time

Just because it's on his hand doesn't instantly mean it should be a weapon. Don't we have enough hand-based weapons in the game as it is?
Pine 31 Mar, 2019 @ 3:33pm
no, 11 (if you don't count the fact that heavy has a pair of gloves for every occasion). There's the Hot hand, heavy's fists (but there's like 9), and the gunslinger.

I would have suggested as it is a left had weapon (wrenches use right hand), you could have it as a secondary that removes engies ability to control sentries / destroy projectiles with the ability to do grapple hook movement. Although that seems quite overpowered.
